FLORENCE, AZ - The Pinal County Sheriff's Office is warning hikers and campers of a dangerous threat this holiday weekend -- cartel assassins.

Sheriff Paul Babeu is recommending anyone using back roads, campsites and trails in western Pinal County to be extra cautious and consider carrying a firearm if they are in any wilderness areas.

According to PCSO, Mexican cartels are sending the "sicarios" -- groups of assassins -- to kill rivals trying to steal their drugs. The armed enforcers are expected to target "rip crews", who ambush other transport groups to steal their drugs and money.

"We are taking this threat seriously and believe that the public and my deputies deserve to know that there is an elevated risk of encountering gun violence in certain areas of Pinal County," Babeu said in a Monday press release.

Keep alert and watch your six if you do head out this weekend.

Wise advice from a cog-schlobber.

Sounds like business as usual for me. I live in Pinal Co., I spend a lot of time in the backcountry, and I try to maintain this type of "alert" status anytime out there..... and recommend the same for anyone.
Although he didn't pinpoint the area, I guarantee he is speaking of Vekol Valley/Table Top Wilderness.

KTAR brought up what I thought was a good point regarding this being political posturing, and not a serious threat.

A serious threat would warrant the responsible advice to stay the fuck out of a specific area. He called out the president and made it a point to tell people to bring weapons. Seems fishy.

In government speak secure means secure for those illegally crossing our border. They need not fear US border Patrol since DC has them on a choker leash.

Best we can hope for is the next president is true to his word on immigration & border security.

If I lose my mind and decide to go for a hike there I will now bring the suppressed M16 instead of my AZ Centennial Ruger LCP.

Just proof that the War On Drugs is working.

So, business as usual for that area, right?

Funny this was posted.  I got a notice this AM about the same brief given by NCIS on the Marine Base in Yuma today.

I wonder what exactly they know that I don't...  I'm one who likes traveling the wide open.

Guess I'll bring my 'varietals' and 'extra'.

Sounds entertaining but I like to stay on the right side of things.  I do worry about this sort of thing from time-to-time dwelling so close to the border; could be entertaining if the hit team somehow bumped into the right group of ARFcommers.

Did you also catch them talking about how they are ASSASSINS!!! So no armed AZ citizen is a match for them. I beg to differ. I think a south of the border assassin is merely some punk kid with a gun who kills because he is paid well and his family is threatened. I seriously doubt they are "trained" assassins, and even if they are trained, I would be willing to bet the training is not much more than being shown how to load a mag, insert mag, load chamber, pull trigger.

wish I could find the pic of an older gentlemen chilling next to one of these signs in his Hawaiian shirt holding a miller lite and an AR-15...

but just a pic of the sign will have to do:

often seen evidence of illegal camps when dove hunting around Arizona City, usually not very fresh.  Always make sure to carry 10 rounds of buckshot to keep it interesting if SHTF...

Um.... Google "Los Zetas."  The average US citizen's biggest mistake is underestimating cartel operatives and other employees who work security.  They are no joke.

I think the point is the guys who are doing drug rips on the TO res are not Zetas.  These are low level enforcers. Much like the guys who got in a rolling gun battle on I-10 many years ago. These are henchmen. Not management or specialists.

Not all the rip crews are illegal aliens.

And yes, low level guys tired of sleeping on mountain tops for very little pay, but there are also plenty of guys out there running around with better knowledge of weapons and tactics than most arfcommers.  Its not just the slave labor doing it, hasn't just been them for years.

Also, any sheriff telling his citizens to pack heat is GTG, pole smoking or not, "posturing" or not.

Some of the guys running rip crews are not even Mexican nationals.

Some are Americans.  Some are cops.  Some are even Feds.

Remember the supervisor out of Phoenix ICE a few years back?

This is probably the most disgusting part of all of this.  Well, outside of the federal government tieing the hands of the boarder patrol.

So neither the sheriffs who are actually on the border, nor the Feds, have any idea what he's talking about....
