I have a rather large tree in my backyard that is exhausting me trying to keep it trimmed. I have decided to get rid of said tree. I was wondering if there is any value in the wood from this tree. I think it is some kind of mesquite tree. I will attach a photo. I have someone to drop the tree and remove the limbs, leaving the trunk cut into smaller parts so I am not looking for a tree service.

No idea what kind it was, but I googled mesquite stocks and dang they look neat, dont know if it is the same species though.  Screwbean

AZ is mostly chilean, honey, and velvet mesquite.. i dont see why it couldnt be cut up and used like that.  Seems there is some screwbean here too!  You can also use it for smoking meat!

Go get a tape measure and see how big around the tree is, how wide it is at its widest point and how tall the straightest part it.
If you want to make a stock out of Mesquite, i know someone who has a couple of chucks cut up just for that, for sale.

I don't want the wood myself. I was just wondering if if would be worthwhile to try and get a few dollars for it instead of having it hauled away. I hate seeing resources wasted.

If you post the measurements I listed.  I will get them to wood turns i know.  If its not at least 14" and at least ' in the straight, most wont touch it.

Last tree I helped get was 22" diameter, and had a straight trunk for about 8 feet.  Biggest Mesquite i've helped with was almost 60" at the base because of all the burl.  That one we pulled the stump out as well as taking the tree down for the owners for free.

If its not up to those and you want to do something good with it have it cut up in to fire log size of all the stuff >4" and put it out in your front yard.  Then post it on craigslist.  It will be gone in a couple of days.

Not worth much unless there's a big burl on it those will sometimes fetch a hundred or two.

I hauled and had a large mesquite cut at a mill a year and a half ago.  Its been air drying ever since and I plan to make various bits of furniture from it.  Most of the stuff in Az is Chiliean Mesquite and its damn hard, similar to oak.  Some tree cutting outfits will drop it for free if they think they can pull a profit once its milled.  Most people use it for firewood.  Figured wood will obviously yield more money but woodworkers are always interested in unsurfaced stock strait off the mill regardless of the species.  Mesquite can go from $5-$20 a board foot depending on figure.  Compare that to Red Oak at around $5-$7 per board foot.

Call  wood workers supply. They specialised in providing hardwood exotics etc. To wood workers. Tell them what you got, see what suggestions they might have. Maybe the will buy it. Etc.
Big mesquite like yours has value, with wood workers.  When I was a younger man I've made some beautiful pistol grips from root burls. And made several custom night sticks.

I threw a line around the base and it measures @67" the trunk is straight with a lean  to about 9'to 10' and then it bifurcates in several very large limbs as seen in the photos. Where the junction of the limbs are looks larger that the base.

Negative on using the mesquites in AZ for smoking, the smoke is way to harsh and overpowering.  A lot of people from Texas show up and think, "wow, look at all this free mesquite!" and find out the hard way that the mesquite here isn't the same.  I'd save it for making a stock or other non-food related use.

You can cook with it, it is great for steaks, but too much for smoking.

It is great for that and doing quick smokes, for long term the trick is to cut it with some other woods.
