Gonna be in Tuscon(work trip at AMARG) starting tomorrow night for a week. I'll be working during the day but afternoon/evening is mine and I wanna get out of the hotel and "see the sights".

So what is around that is a "need to see/do"?

Thanks guys!

Pima air and space museum, titan missile museum.  Both are must see.

Here are a few ideas:

Old Tucson
Arizona Sonora Desert Museum
Saguaro National Park
Titan Missile Museum
Pima Air and Space Museum
Trail Dust Town
Casinos
Drive up Mt. Lemon
Colossal Cave
Kitt Peak Observatory

Also, if you want to go further out, you have Tombstone, Bisbee, and Ft. Huachuca.

Titan Missile Museum. Take I-19 south to exit 69. Head west on Duvall Mine Road. It's the first road on the right just past La Canada.

When you leave there, you can stop by the American Legion next door to it!

food food food..

If you are one who likes to try regional flavors when you travel.. Try a Sonoran Hot Dog and/or a Chimichanga, these are regional foods that wont be the same if even available anywhere else.

Hopefully others can recommend you an establishment best suited for each.

I love the Casa Molina on Speedway.  Sit in the round room under the poster of Matador Diego O'Bolger, he is a good friend who took our CCW course last week.

I have a free pass to the Pima Air and Space museum. You're probably working during the day but if you do get time off PM me and I'll hook you up. My work is catty corner from there.

If you're a foodie...

Guelo Canelo for Sonoran Dogs and Caramelos.
Cafe Poca Cosa for fine dining mexican (Menu changes twice a day)
47 Scott for Cocktails after Cafe Poca Cosa if you are so inclined.
Kingfisher on Grant for Late Night Eats/Wine.
Bing's Boba on Campbell for Bubble Tea.
Tacos Apson for adventurous tacos (head, tongue, beef rib)
Zayna on Speedway for Mediterranean. (Chicken Shwarma, Mixed Grill)
Miss Saigon in Marana (Ina/I-10) for Vietnamese. (Green Curry, Pho, Lemon Grass Beef Com Tam)
Dominick's Real Italian (Northside) for Bistro Style Italian (Short Rib Ravioli, Chicken Scarpielo)
Sushi Cortaro for Sushi (Great happy hour prices)
Bison Wiches on 4th avenue for a giant college student deli sandwich and soup bread bowl.

Give us an idea of what part of town you're in, can point you in the right direction.

BK's won the Sonora Dog challenge

But IMHO the best Sonora dog is a stand on 22nd across from Guenlo canelo in a dirt lot.

Chimi's, Casa Molina is good on 22nd, can also do Molina's on midway just down the street.

Oregano's (Alfredo the Dark), Mama Louise's on craycroft near the base for some Italian, get the "Joe's Special" and ask for extra garlic (there is also one on Houghton now)

Chuy's probably has the best mesquite grilled chicken around.

Rosa's is also good Mexican food.

Thanks for all the info and suggestions, should have time to hit a few at least, trip might be a little longer than expected anyways (came out to do a test flight and bring a plane home to nc, but it's not really cooperating atm).

I'm staying inn Williams center.

Be sure to tell him where Papa Locos is right around a couple corners.

Check out the Hot Rod Cafe on Houghton.  Not so much for the food, but have a snack, some beers, and see hotrods being built through glass that shows the entire shop through the restaurant.

thanks for all the suggestions guys! Made it back home to NC on Friday, but I should be back out there a few more times this year(we have several more planes to rejuvenate still). So I should have time to see even more next time I'm out that way!

If you want a chimichanga, you've gotta go to El Charro, the grandma invented it there. Don't believe that Macayo's bullshit claim.

Looks like I will again be a temporary resident of the fine city of Tucson for two weeks after thanksgiving.

Any good gun shops in the area to hit? One of the guys going with me wants to do some sporting clays while we're out there, any decent places to do that? Won't be bringing guns with us, so rentals would be preferable.

There is a big skeet club on the southwest side of town.  I don't shoot skeet though so no idea if they offer rentals.

Murphy's Guns on Fort Lowell has some neat older and used guns.

Tucson Guns and Western Artifacts on Broadway might be worth a look.

DIamondback Police Supply is probably the main "tacticalish" gun store in town, but I don't really care for the attitude in there so I've been avoiding them for the last few years.

There are more, but they're nothing special.

Dude, seriously.

I was just in there today looking for a fixed blade and a box of SD ammo. They didn't have the blade I was looking for, ok whatever. But then I stood at the ammo counter for 5 minutes along with another dude who had already been standing there for 5 minutes...

That's not the first time they've ignored people at the ammo counter. I've walked out of there empty handed the last few times I went there just because nobody paid any fucking attention to me trying to buy ammo...

Well fuck that! I left saying aloud I'd take my business to 2nd Amendment...

I won't waste my time there anymore.

I've even bought 2 pistols from them at the old shop. Ever since they moved I gotten no service at all.

You're not alone

I remember waiting for them on the floor with three other people...and no employees, not one.  I don't mean, not one at the ammo, I mean not one period.   It was unreal.  I left after about 10 minutes empty handed.   Haven't been back.

As for Tucson lots of great suggestions.

-Mother Hubards at grant and stone is great for breakfast.  Interesting place

-Le Caves has some great doughnuts.  It looks horrible but it's worth it.

-I am a Guerro Carnelo fan myself, love their chicken burro too

If you're getting out of town Bisbee is a trip.  Very cool place to walk around

In town it's been fairly well covered depending on what you're into.
