Unfortunately I couldn't get the camera in time. I've never seen a bird like this, not in the wild, zoo pet store or in a picture.

The bird was about twice the size of a parakeet. Bright yellow breast, mottled black wings and a bright orange face with a thin, long black beak slightly curved down at the end. No "crest" or anything like that on the head.

I was just looking out the window, drinking my coffee and he showed up, landing in a tree.

Prescott Valley area.

Anyone know what kind of bird this was? It was a strikingly beautiful bird, the kind you want to know the name of...

Thanks

Very close. The whole face was bright orange. I can't recall the color of the tail. The beak was long and kind of thin. I really wish I had even a phone camera. I don't have a clue as to whether he belongs here or got "off course".

Probably a type of Oriole then.  How about this one?

You found my answer in a lefthanded way!

When I saved your picture I found out it was an oriole and I was able to find "similar birds"

It was a Western Tanager!

Apparently he's just passing through on his migration.

Thanks!

Nice.  We are lucky to get so many cool bird species here.

I was going to guess Yellow-Headed Blackbird.

The only correct answer is the Strandard Afrcom Answer.

"Possum".

Yellow Breasted Pelinger.

RIP, Mrs. I.

My best friend's mom used to keep tabs on the tanager activity in her area.

Huge Arizona birdwatcher. She could identify any bird immediately.

Saw one of these tonight in NE Mesa. I believe it is a Bullock's Oriole
