I'll be in training next week in Mesa. Looking for some real southwest food (it's been a while, I used to live in Las Cruces, NM).

Suggestions are appreciated.

eta:

I know it's not green chile season. I'll take red. Scalding, please.

Hands down, Los Dos Molinos then!

The blue adobe too. Have not been there but supposed to be good.

Yup. Los Dos is fantastic imo. The Mesa location is around Alma School north of University or so as I recall

Thanks for that recommendation.

Our survey says:

Los Dos is closed on Sunday and Monday.

I ate at Hodori tonight. Absolutely excellent Korean. I did not know that Mesa was an oriental town. I've only heard  my beloved oompa oompa circus music coming out of one pick up truck. The rest of the vehicles have been filled with Asians and a smattering of gringos.

I did not know this.

That sucks, sorry.  BTW a lot of places in Mesa, and AZ are closed on Sundays.  Probably due to LDS owners and employees and/or large population of LDS in the area.

Chandler and Mesa have a nice Vietnamese community with a smattering of Chinese and a few others for good measure..  I get my Viet food and have good asian markets to go to when needed!

I guess I'll run this into a review and story thread,  until I'm booted From here.

The class is mediocre to good. But, it's required for our VAR agreement, so, there's not much choice in the matter. I finally had some southwestern food. Mata's off bass pro (blvd, lane, whatever). Got the Sandy special. The green chile sauce was more like  an enchilada green sauce, but was good. Too much cheddar cheese (Really, Pheonix?). I prefer my pork for this smaller and more dense, this was pressure cooked. B-

Dinner was at unphogettable. Very nice food. I prefer my nuc mam to have peppers in it, but the #5 pho was tasty and the winter rolls were refreshing.

Los Dos is open tomorrow. I will be ordering the green chile dinner. I hope it's smoking hot, or I will be disappoint.

Cigarettes cost too much,  and inkies are everywhere. The weather is great, and everyone appears comfortable in their skin. I like it here.

I stopped off at fry's to pick up some breakfast items. No baskets available. I grab a cart. Apparently,  the right rear wheel melted to the parking lot asphalt last summer. The right front wheel would not turn and the left front wheel just spun at random intervals. I got sympathy looks, derp looks, and fearful glances as I walked around the store with this fucking cart going BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG screeeech, flop flop BANG BANG BANG BANG.

Life as usual.

My butt itches.

Training class sucks.

Hit los dos tonight. Ordered the green chile plate. It had red pepper and cayenne in it.

Wtf. You DO NOT MIX RED AND GREEN CHILI.

Beaner food sucks here.

Heading back to the Korean joint tomorrow night.

Posole and green enchiladas con carne. A coin toss to red enchiladas con huevo.

I went back to Hodori tonight. They make a jam up daeji bulgogi. I came to Arizona to eat asian food, apparently.

I test out of my class tomorrow morning. I did learn two cool things, but, the week has been a washout.

Not scheduled to fly out until Saturday morning. I guess Scotch and a casino is in my future. I will find some serious beaner food before I leave. I'll be looking for the shittiest looking road side stand I can find.

What is up with all of the people (ladies and gents of all persuasions) 6'2" and taller around here?

Tested out of class today. Maxed it (yay). Afterward, I ran over to the casino to try my hand at black jack. They ran me for 3 bills in a short time. I went over to the Cousin Eddie table (No, not, pick a hand, War). I got a fortunate run of 4's and 5's that beat 2's and 3's and pulled back everything but around 22 bucks. The black jack tables suck. Y'all should know which one I'm talking about, it's off of Alma School. Seriously, I watched for a good while, both before and after playing, and the hands just didn't make sense.

I ate at Korean BBQ on the same road. Very good food. The sides were amazing (Yes, I ordered Daeji). They even served pajeon as a side. Good fucking stuff.

40 hours to burn now. I think I'm going for a long drive tomorrow. East is a good direction for me. Maybe I'll find a real beaner joint. I am disappoint.

I wanted to follow up on this. It's been a long week.

I ended up going to taqueria mi Casita Friday evening. I got the Cabeza plate. Let me tell you, that's as good as it gets. Excellent, light colored beans. Green chile and roasted jalapeño. The Cabeza was tender, moist and tasty.

Talking with a couple that was there, they recommended (fuck, it's been a week, I've slept since then) mo jo's? Joe's?

I wish I had had more time.

Good trip. Good food. Good weather. I'll give it an A.

Edited for spell check.
