She says CA to be close to our son I say AZ because of gun laws.
My requirements would be

Hospital , I have had a stroke, cancer, seizures
Wife's
Less than 3 hr access to LA

Lake Havasu gets you close, near the I-40, last time I drove was to LA Harbor area and it was 4 and a half with lunch thrown in....meets the other requirements as well.

And about a 5 hour drive depending on where in the Phoenix valley and traffic. As for gun ranges, there are quite a few around the valley as are hospitals.

Good - great medical care, Phoenix is your best bet.

Boswell Hospital in Sun City specializes in old people and their medical problems.
Several of my relatives lasted a couple of years longer because they were within a couple miles of Boswell.

Plus, If my wife wanted to move to California, I would divorce her.

If I didn't have 38+ years in our marriage I just might leave.

Prescott has a VA hospital, and from Prescott to Victorville, CA is 6 hours give or take.

Another +1 for Prescott. We go back to LA about twice a year to visit friends and family. It's about a six-hour drive, longer if you have to stop a lot.

That said, when I had my aneurysm back in July, my cardiologist shipped me to Banner Boswell down in Sun City. Apparently it's the best cardiac hospital in the state.

If you want a combination of cheap houses, good hospitals, and gun ranges then Phoenix is your best bet.

You do have a criminal element there but if you take even the most minimal precautions you will most likely never run into it.

Probably the two nicest ranges are Ben Avery on the west side and Rio Salado on the east.
Lots of hospital and a couple of airports, Sky Harbor and the old Williams air base is now a regional airport (I never use it since I am 10 minutes from Sky Harbor)
How often would your wife be going to LA?

ETA - Don't forget cost of living, property taxes are quite a bit higher in CA, not to mention home prices.

We also have 38+ years.  Her horror at moving back to California is the same as mine, so we are safe.  And +1 on Boswell Hospital, but I would add Banner Thunderbird in Glendale to that list.
