THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
My friends son just got harassed by LEO for shooting tannerite in the desert.
Was told to pack up and leave because they had tannerite.
They were told that it was illegal to shoot tannerite on public lands.
Anyone ever heard this?

I dont think so, primarily because the only issue the officer had was the fact that it was "public land"

Depends on what kind of public land.... Some you can't shoot at all, some you can. No idea about the tannerite aspect, but I wouldn't bust your balls for it.

Tannerite is legal to detonate on public land (USFS or BLM), but not on AZ State Trust Land, where you also can't target shoot at all. Sounds like someone was confused about something.
