THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Five minutes into the ride I stand up to pedal up an incline and WHAM!! Bike stops cold, I go flying over the handlebars and hit the asphalt like a cartoon piano. CRAP! I take a look and the rear wheel came loose, almost falling off and jammed against the frame. I just picked the damn thing up, they didn't put the wheel on right, or tight enough. Now my right hip, left arm and left knee are really sore. Im going to the doctor in the morning. I called the shop immediately to leave a message, but they have no answering machine. Sent them a note on facebook with pics of the bikes rear wheel area to show where it came loose. But it looks like they havent looked at facebook in a while. Im pissed. What recourse do I have on this? Is this just a suck it up and hope they put the wheel back on right? |

I took a bike to a professional and the job they did ended up in an accident ..........because of a botched job. Im not a bike mechanic, thats why I take it to a professional bike mechanic. And when they say its ready to hit the road then it should be ready to hit the road. I call landing my ass on asphalt real. Again, I am not looking for a payday. but if they pull the...." you should have checked your equipment" bullshit, then we will see about taking it further. I expect them to take care of my bike and doc bills! |

First off, you took your bike to the shop to have new tubes put in the tires?
That takes about five minutes if you're slow. Trailside, it takes me longer to pump it up than it does to change it. Do that kind of work yourself.
If I had to guess, they probably didn't tighten the CLIX quick connector enough and it jumped out. Get ahold of them and see what happens. Odds are, if it's traceable to just the CLIX, there isn't much you can do. It shouldn't happen, but they could try to claim you messed with it. What shop? |

I'm no lawyer, but I can't believe that. If a woman can get millions for spilling coffee in her lap.. Yeah, a woman who got 3rd degree and full-thickness burns requiring skin grafts and several hospitalizations. She sued when she asked McDonalds to cover her 20K medical bills and they refused. All she wanted was her medical bills paid "the millions" were determined as punitive damages by the jury. They awarded 2.7 million in punitive damages (which was exactly 2 days revenue at the time of McDonalds coffee sales), the jury made this choice specifically. The judge reduced the damages to under 500K saying they were excessive damages, McDonalds settled for an undisclosed amount outside of court. The MSM and tort reform groups push their version of this case and their version is complete BS. It is amazing that so many argue the MSM fucks up 2A and Firearm issues, but accepts other things at face value. As to the OP that sucks man, I hope you are okay. They will probably try the 'well you f'd with it, the bike was fine when it left' scenario, but I wish you the best. I hope your medical shit is just sore and bruises and nothing really serious. |

You sir must be a bad ass! I also don't load my own magazines. I hire a big tittied blonde hot girl to do that. Since I am not a bad ass biker dude like you, I paid for tubes. The put them in for no charge. |

Apparently that came out way wrong. I wasn't intending to suggest that the OP should sue them for millions, but pointing out the absurdity that a person can do something to themselves and sue successfully, but the poster I quoted didn't think there was any legal recourse for actual negligence. |

I took it back today and the owner was really cool about it. He looked into it a bit and found the hub had some play in it and the "skewer" was stripped and bent. And the linkage had some play in it.
He said he would go through it and take care of everything and make sure it was right. At no charge. |
