I don't blame the wets as much as I blame the people who hire them over their neighbors based solely on price. They and the crime they attract would not be here if there was zero chance of their finding any employment, and a 100% chance they would be forceably deported. Wouldn't eliminate the flow of crime across the border but would damn sure put a choke on it. |

I remember riding by dirt bike in the South Mountain preserve...legally. Warner road was as far as Phoenix extended south. Ahh the good ole days.

Rockers, Indian School, West of 35th Ave... I saw Rob Halford with his tongue in Surgical Steel's singer's ear. I thought everyone knew he was gay. h.gif The Mason Jar was my favorite, though. I'd like to have taken my kid to a show there. |

"Anybody remember the old Thunderbird Drive-In Theater on 59th ave between Bethany and Missouri?"
Yep, I remeber that. How about The Rusty Nail restaurant on Bethany, a block or two west of 59th ave? Great steaks. |
Remember the bridge to nowhere east of Pima at around McDowell? Bridge for the future 101 that stood all by itself for almost 10 years. Or when the Indians had a temper tantrum and closed northbound lane of Pima for a year and a half? |
anybody else remember Karen Beth Green?
ETA: Fixed spelling, included middle name. |
Guess it worked. They now have casinos and 40 some families split $200 million for the 101 lease. Remember when Bob Boze Bell did the 1989 April Fools Day joke broadcast where the indians had taken over the KSLX studios on horseback with bows and arrows and were demanding all white people leave Arizona. I forget how many calls Scottsdale PD had but it was a bunch. |
... That was bad, remember the fate of reporter Don Bowles? |
"The Blue Goat" in Scottsdale.
Bar on McClintock (Hayden). As I remember it was between Camelback and Indian School Rd. |

No one mentioned buying surplus military gear, fishing gear and gun gear at Yates.
Now there was a store. And my dad bought me my first gun (Ruger 10/22) at Smitty's Grocery Store. |
Yellow Front had racks of inexpensive genuine GI surp. M1 Carbines and M1 Garands. Surp ammo for them too...A giant pair of Levi's( made in America by Americans, thank you) hanging over the men's wear. Pickup a real Levi jacket every fall or 2...C-Rats(fruit cake bars and the little ciggie packs. 1 P-38 per case) for sale, Tropical chocolate bars at the cash register.

Yeah, I remember.
I remember having a dozen shooting places within 30 minutes of my parents house near Main and Country Club, in Mesa. I remember being able to see the Superstitions from the same place in the mornings. |
I do remember that, it was a bad omen. God, I miss Smitty's, it was one stop shopping at it's finest. One Friday night, I recall going through checkout with a six pack, box of condoms & 2 boxes of 44 mag. The snowbirds were horrified. |

Carlotta worked with The Loan Arranger. (Lone Ranger) |

As I said, I saw her in real life, she was a woman. Also I'm pretty sure that they both appeared together in some of the commercials. |

Remember Dave Pizer and Little Woofy
My dad was good friends with Dave from way back in the early 60s. They still keep in touch. Dave got real into cryonics for a while (freezing your body or head after you die). I think he lives in Mayer now. |
Man,, what a memory jog. Just south ot T-bird park were all orange/lemon/grapefruit orchards and grape vinards,, plus several ponds we used to hunt ducks off. |

I remember when the Nazis escaped from the Papgo POW camp...........OK, I read about that one
I have only been around a little under 30 years, but I remember "JJ, the King of beepers" and being shocked that after listening to Pratt my entire life on KUPD he was going country. It worked, because now I like country. I also remember walking across the street from my parents house when I was very young to the Arabian horse facility on 60th street and Bell to watch the horses. |
"JJ, the King of beepers"
Oh god I had forgotten that. You bastard. "HAY I'M JAYJAY DA KEENG OF BEEPAHS"! |
the actual saying was: right on the PRICE right on the CORNER of north 7th st. and Highland just a block south of Camelback... OH MY, i cant believe i remember that after all these yrs. |

... Veterans Memorial Coliseum, on any given packed night, "plumbing" problems
That wasn't until 1994/1995. Not really the "old Phoenix". What is really sad is the damn Audio Express commercials. How many friggen decades do we have to listen to the "ho-ho-ho-HOME of the $1 install." |
Hamburgers and shakes at the Carnation Dairy Restaurant on Central
The Fountains at the old Insurance Bldg on Central When my mom graduated High School at Phoenix Union HS, PUHS was the ONLY HS in Phoenix at the time. |
When I started HS in Glendale,,the only one around, it covered almost all the way to Luke, most of where Coronado HS is, Alhambra had just been built, and Maryvale was about 3 yrs old.
