Metro Cleveland is a big place, you have to be a bit more specific.

I've got my ffl and about 30min south of downtown right off 77.  I also stock some Aero stuff and others, have a ton of mags for sale.  I live in a twp so you can test your guns at my backyard pistol range or my 200yd rifle range at my shop down the street lol.  First transfer for ar15 members is 10 bucks.

Otherwise for recommendations, the wife and I like to go out downtown occasionally, usually East 4th as we get a lot of free tickets to hilarities when they need to fill out the seating.  Johnny's or Red for steakhouses (mortons is overrated)  Barrio for good cheap tacos/margaritas, A TON of local bars selling good craft brews between Ohio City/West 25th and Tremont (I like the tremont taphouse).  They re-did the east side of the flats and it's really nice, but I'm not a fan of the super busy club scene anymore.

I grew up in the area so I'm very familiar if you have any questions.

Thanks for the recs and the very generous offer. I have the misfortune of being allergic to red meat but I do love me some tequila so I will def check that out and the taphouse as well.

The area near Playhouse Square is pretty nice. You are close to the theater/shows (duh), close to Progressive field and Quicken Loans arena. The casino is not that far away if you're into that.

Hofbrauhaus is right next door if you want somewhere close to grab a beer.

Hospital systems - the big three are Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals and MetroHealth

Check out Camp Perry - if you are a member of the CMP, you can go pick out (if there are any left) a Garand there. I think you'll just have missed the National Matches and commercial row.

Shoot me an IM when you get into town if you would like to meet up for a beer. I know a couple of people in the craft beer scene...

First order of business: "WELCOME, BROTHER!"

Secondly: we've been here 70+ years (wife and I of 50 years) and it ain't half bad! Kinda muggy in Summer, and snowy and cold in Winter, but all-in-all "Tolerable." Point being: get you a FWD at least and a 4 x 4 at best for the lousy "White Death" each Winter which descends a la "Lake Effect" 'round here. LE=cold Canadian air moves south over moist and open Lake Erie=dumps a lot of snow on us. But, if you live/work in Playhouse Square, mebbe public transport is all you need. I worked near there and it's easy getting 'round East & West sides of town with buses and rapid transits.

Third: Cleveland, aka: "Best Location in the Nation," has got zillions of ethnics here--their foods and beverages are OUT-STANDING! Take your pick. Craft beers (and wines) galore! Decent prices , too.

Fourth: We're at the hub of three Major League medical care facilities, as noted. Me--an old timer--I prefer Cleveland Clinic, followed by University Hospitals ("University" like in Med School teaching,) and then Metro Health.

Fifth: LEO, for the most part, is excellent. Courteous, kind, and professional. Get to know the police on your beat--you'll find 'em having a coffee or such in the local eateries. Most are understanding, but if you give them manure, you will get it back in your face in spades. Law 'n order; important to this old timer.

Sixth: Cultural, artistic, religious, sports--we got it all (and then some!) Severance Center (me loves their Beethoven) and our Art Museum also world-class. Libraries galore. Colleges and universities ditto. Churches and Synagogues of your choosing. Pro ball teams--(go, Indians!), Cavs, Browns, etc.

Seventh: If you're staying any length of time, I'd advise you to start thinking about building up your local "Team." That is, get to know locals before the need arises  who can help you in a pinch--decent guys who won't rip you for stuff like auto/truck repair and maintenance, plumbing, wiring, HVAC, docs, dentists, vets--so when the need arises, BAM! you know who to call and get the job done with no bs. Keep your antennae up.

Eighth: Great fishing, hunting and shooting 'round these parts. We hike, camp. fish. Wife rides horses big-time--I clean the stalls while she rides. Western or English--your choice. Me--I hole up with my pack 'o Beagles each fall and go a 'huntin. Just to get out in the cold, crisp air is a blessing. Can't be beat.

Ninth: People are generally ok to excellent, but you'll meet some "ringers." Don't let 'em get you down.

...got any questions, ideas, or beefs, SING OUT! we're here to help!

 Nice summation BeNotAfraid.

The only thing that I would add is the reason that I found my way back home after moving around quite a bit in my younger years. When friends would ask me why I came back I would reply: "Simple, Cleveland is a very easy town to be middle-class in." Property values aren't too high and the cost of living is pretty reasonable. You don't have to make a ton of money to have a good life here.

Why would you ever do that? From AZ? Are you insane?

Cleveland is a s hole and especially shittier for gun owners.

I have to drive over an hour to reach the closest outdoor range.

Weather is awful 300 days a year; it will be either rain or snow. If and only if you are lucky, you will find yourself driving to a range on a humid af day.

FFL is $25+

I've had $15 in Columbus. But that's Columbus, not Cleveland.

I hope you are retired or have a decent job already lined up. The job market is, in general, terrible.

That's not entirely true.  I run a plant in Lorain and we can't find enough qualified employees.  If someone doesn't have a job right now in the greater Cleveland area, it is because they don't really want to work.

Atwell's Police and Fire Supply in Painesville, Ohio. Exceptional FFL service and very reasonable pricing!

B&T Shooting Supplies and Fin Feather Fur are two good gun shops. They are about 20 minutes from you, right off 71 South.

For an indoor range, head to Select Fire in Berea, about 30 mins from you.

Avoid Stonewall at all cost, unless you like paying above MSRP on guns and being raped on range fees.

If you want to join a club, I belong to Erie County Conservation League, and I can sponsor your membership. It is about 50 mins from you.

Welcome to the cold.

The place I work has over 50 openings for highly paid positions and benefits and is having trouble finding people as well, they will pay for training even.
Lots of places all over the area is looking for people and can't due to the drug problems and people being lazy.

I'm not from here but proud to call Cleveland home, it's a great area and there is always something to do no matter what interest you.

Yeah, people keep saying that, and then they always end up being mediocre paying at best and/or require the applicant to already be an expert in something very specific. It's not impossible to find GOOD work, but it's not a good market.

If work isn't an issue, the area is pretty cool. Very crowded for my taste but pretty nice.
