Haven't been to a gun show in a few years so me and my dad took a trip to check it out. I went with the whole intention to buy an SKS of some sort depending on what was there. There was a grand total of 4 SKS's today 2 of which had no BAYO's and no original mag in one. The other 2 were just insanely overpriced. I will say there was a couple deals floating around on some handguns. At the end of the day we walked out with 2 ammo cans and a couple of AK mags. Me and Dad were both disappointed, So i'll probably just stick to buying stuff online which 75% of the time is a better deal.

If anyone else wants to say anything about past or present experiences at gun shows here is your thread.

This.  The only place you get a deal is picking stuff up from other people walking around.

I remember when the Bill Goodman show in Dayton was really good, made a point to save your $$$ to get a new toy, this was back in the late 80s early 90s.

Yeah my Dad was talking about being able to go up Bill Goodman in the 80's/90's and it just being an amazing thing due to the high volume of Mil surp around. 30/50 cal ammo cans that people couldn't give away from what he was saying and it just sucks for us young guys being in the market for a lot of this stuff and its just not available like it was and people who think their stuff is gold.

I quit going to gun shows about five years ago.

The admission prices are higher and the deals are gone, unless you find a private seller that is hard up for money.

I can find better deals at my LGS and help them stay in business.

I've had my best luck on armslist. You may want to try it.

I was planning to give the Columbus gun show a try the first weekend in June -- but that's mostly out of curiosity because somehow I've never ended up going to one.

Not everything is cheaper, but i find deals at gunshows, and it beats hell out of staying home mowing yard and stuff.

I thank you guys for staying home!   Makes the vendors sell cheaper if less customers,,,,

Dayton show is not what it used to be.

This.

Gun shows (particularly Goodman) are just the same stuff: beef jerky, neckbeards, apocalypse/SHTF books, and "stun guns."

The Columbus show, in its new setting, is pretty good.

A good number of new vendors, and a better quality of attendees...

I discovered this a couple of years ago.

The only reason to go to gunshows anymore is cheap(ish) ammo, the occasional milsurp item, and odds and ends small parts that cost more to ship than than the part is worth. Mostly they're filled with overpriced crap sold by unreasonable dealers that also sell shitty, imported tactical gear.

The heydays of awesome gunshows and good finds are largely over.

No, not yet, I don't think. But the thieves stole all the copper out of the water and HVAC systems, because they couldn't/wouldn't afford security. Now it is not up to code for public use.

I see that casino is doing an awesome job of revitalizing the west side.

Ah yes, the fond memories of the smell in the men's restroom.

There was a time I'd walk into Hara with 5k in my pocket and leave with a trunk full of stuff and no money.

Now, if I bother going, I walk in with 5k and leave with 4,992.

It nearly always sucks, though there was an AK parts guy that was fun to talk to, and Front Line Firearms often had neat stuff.

That's when hobbyists were allowed to rent tables to sell/add to their collections.
