Vances Outdoors is a great new indoor range and large gun store in the South east edge of Columbus if you want to shoot.

"The Wilds" in Cumberland, OH is part of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and only 1-1/4 hrs from Lancaster.
Both are fun for kids, but The Wilds has more of a "Jurassic Park" feel to it :)

We went two years ago.  It is a nice day trip.  A lady worker wasn't too amused when I told her, "The next time I come, I'm bringing my rifle."

Another place to check out if you bring a rifle you want to stretch its legs is Rayner's Range.  Steel plate targets out to 1100 yards.

Old Man's Cave/WNF is worth visiting....cool area to check out with the family, just a short drive from Lancaster.

Cols. Zoo & The Wilds are both worth the trip, Easton is neat if the kids/wife wanna shop or hit some decent restaurants. I never make it past World of Beer. :D

If you go to old man's cave, stop at millstone BBQ off rt.33. Excellent food. I go down there a few times a year for vacation, beautiful area and more hiking opportunities than just old man's cave. Conkles hollow is beautiful too, ash cave is interesting as well.

The most amazing Air Force museum in the nation is 1 1/2 hours away, on the east side of Dayton.  It is SO worth the trip, if you are into aviation.

If they dont have 400 aircraft on display, I would be shocked.

It is 1 1/2 or 2 x the size of the Smithsonian air collection.

It's good for 2 day visit, but you can do 1 day, if you must.  (skip the WWI era hangar, to save time)

and it is free!

to give an idea of scale, this is one hangar.....

Motts Military Museum in Canal Winchester is neat.

William T Sherman's house is in Lancaster.

Philip Sheridan's house is up SR22 in Somerset.

Marcy diner has a damned good breakfast, and right down the road is Slate run park. They have an operating historical farm that is fun for the kids. You can check out the animals and they may be plowing the fields with the horses this time of year.  Nice hiking trails and playgrounds.
A little further down the road is slate run vineyard, he makes some good wine, and tastings are like $4 I think.

If you like beer, I've heard great things about Rockmill Brewery.
I haven't been personally but a good friend raves about it.
