COLUMBUS, Ohio - Residents south and east of Columbus reported a foul odor in the air on Friday. They posted about it on social media about it, as well as calling local officials.
Dispatchers from Columbus Fire and Police, Gahanna Police, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Pickaway County Sheriff's Office, and the Ross County Sheriff's Office tell 10TV they received complaints.
The question became - what was it?
An EPA spokesperson tells 10TV that the Glatfelter paper plant in Chillicothe is the likely source for the odor.
The official says a system used to vent their emissions was taken down for maintenance, and a backup system failed. The original system is now working again.
The EPA says there is no health concerns associated with the emission.
According to comments on 10TV's Facebook page, the odor was reported in New Albany, Gahanna, Bexley, Whitehall, Reynoldsburg, Lockbourne, Southeast Columbus, Ashville, Rickenbacker Airport, Circleville, andChillicothe.
