So I was a little disappointed 10mm or 458 SOCOM/50 Beowolf, etc wasn't on the list, but I am still damn happy about the changes. It also gave me an excuse to put an order in for a Marlin 1895 lever action 45-70. I've always wanted a Marlin lever gun but never had a good reason to own one. Though part of me wants to bust out my trapdoor next year just for shits and giggles!

What about you? Plans on buying a pistol caliber rifle? What do you plan on using next season?

thinking about a ruger 77/44

figured .44 would be the best all around option

Kinda tempted to get one of these on order with a threaded barrel...

You better order it now if you want it for hunting season.

*edit*
just read 16.5" 18" or 20" barrel so no stamp would be required.

.45-70 appears to be the best option.

I tend to agree, but the .375 Winchester and the 444 marlin look good.

I have a Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70 but think a 300gr bullet a little much for deer at 40 yards. I think I will try to find an older Marlin 1894 in 44 mag.

I'd like to try reloading 444 Marlin.  From the looks of it a Hornady 180gr XTP should reach 2600+fps long before any pressure issues.  That's what the lead I throw from my 7-1/2" 44mag, right at 1800fps.  Close to another 1k fps should easily add another 100 yards to an already very effective 150 yard anti-whitetail load.

I already had plans to buy a Lever Action.

This just moves it up the priority list.

It also helps in the decision of which caliber to get.

Most likely a Marlin .44mag.

I have a 1971 Marlin 1894 in 44 magnum that shoots real well that I have had for several years. I also have a Marlin 444P in 444 Marlin that shoots great too. Plus I also load for both of these calibers and have some great loads ready. I have been pushing for this Pistol caliber cartridge law to pass for about 3 years now. And it finally passed, I am looking forward to it greatly.
