The Cleveland area (Cuyahoga County) still has the emissions tests that have to be done every 2 years, it is free though. As far as vehicle inspections they will check the VIN number on the car at the Dept. of Motor Vehicles when you get you new Ohio plates if your from out of state but that's it.

There's only an E-check in these seven counties: What counties are included in the Ohio E-Check program?
The 7 Ohio counties currently participating in the program include: Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, and Summit. Wooster is in Wayne County. Some of Wayne County is Amish country. Get used to dodging buggies on the roads. |

Sounds good so far then.
What are Ohio's negatives? As an example, we have a high sales tax, high crime/murder rate, high insurance rates, car inspections $18/yr/car (basically making sure you are not driving around on 3 wheels or with the check engine light on), bad traffic, high cancer rate, always adding something new to your property tax and very poor schools. |

You will live Wooster. Good God fearing folks. Country to the core yet we have lots of good food and shoping. Wayne County is very conservative. Youll learn to dodge Amish carts and road apples. If you move here by September youll get to experience the Wayne County Fair which is a treat.

Sometimes it snows here. Sometimes quite a bit and sometimes not. Nothing much happens in Wayne County except for when the Amish get cranky and go on a beard cutting spree. It's a pretty rural area, rolling hills and farms. Most women find the Amish area "quaint". Sugarcreek has some of the best Swiss cheese in the country. You might not care for it all that much if you're young and crave the night life. It's a nice area if you're "settled". Sales taxes depend on county. It's around 6% more or less. NO sales taxes on groceries (with some exceptions, soda, ect). No tax on take out food. There is a state income tax though. |

There was a thread a few months ago from someone else thinking of a move to Wooster. I remember someone saying it is the kind of place kids can't wait to leave and adults can't wait to come back to. I think that pretty much sums up Wooster. It's been my experiance if you want factory work it's pretty easy to find. Lots of places hire through temp agencies and most have a high turnover rate. As for becoming a full fledged employee or finding more skilled labor, I really don't know.

Wooster is a great part of the state. Good friendly people, gun-friendly, and not as poor and run down as southern Ohio. Taxation is low, cost of living is low, crime is negligible.
Our gun laws aren't bad, and the 30 round limit deal is really the only big issue...but it's a non-issue. Never enforced, few LE I've ever met in person even knew it was a law. Don't let that stop you. |

I wish it wasn't that way, man, I really do...because it's the most beautiful place. It just needs about 3/4's of it's inhabitants to take some pride in their homes, cut their grass, and stop using broken down school buses as outbuildings. You can be poor as fuck and still have a clean yard...but then I think the same drive that makes people clean their shit up is the same drive that gets you off the sofa and disability and into a job. |

You never hear about anything major happening in Wooster.
My pastor used to be in charge of a youth group there. If you're a Southern boy, you'll feel right at home. |

not my part of the state, but i'd imagine wooster area is pretty nice/scenic area... like others have said, you don't hear about that area too much in the news...
gun laws are pretty good, and we have engaged grassroots orgs fighting to improve, ...have made some big improvements in recent years, including removing the state prohibition on carrying concealed in "class-D" alcohol establishments last year! http://forums.buckeyefirearms.org/index.php http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/ |

Since I live here ill add some more. Wayne County is called the bread basket of Ohio. Lots of farms but also Wooster and Orrville have allot of factory work. My wife commutes to Akron for work and I know folks that commute even to Columbus.
The hospital is real nice. I am there allot and in other hospitals in the area and I will take WCH any day. I think we are up to 3 gun shops in town.. The Fin is 20 to 30 min drive depending on where you are. I think we have the best time in Ohio for getting carry permits approved. Very nice folks at the Sheriffs Dept. Lots of great food. If your into wood working, tractors, bikes or old cars and your wife is into quilting stuff you will be in heaven. Ya know most of the kids from my church go away for college (Even know we have the renowned Wooster college in town) but they more often come back to settle down. It is great place to raise your kids. I wish I grew up here!! Like I said the fair is just around the corner : ) Let me know if I can answer any specifics. |

I live very close to Wooster. Actually my entire family is spread throughout this part of Ohio.
Is it paradise? Hardly. But if you are looking for a good solid place you cant go wrong. Pick a small town (IM me and I will talk to you about mine), get to know your neighbors, and enjoy the fact that you can ski, snowmobile, and hunt, in the winter, and water ski, swim, mountain bike, hike, climb, shoot and camp all summer long. There are a lot of good people here. |

The 30 + round magazine thing: it's perfectly legal to OWN a 30+ round magazine. I have a bunch of 'em. But if you insert it in a weapon, you've created a machine gun, and are an instant felon.
Look through section 2923 of the Ohio Revised Code. The way it works, posession is not restricted, but inserting the mag into a weapon makes the gun "specially adapted to fire more than 31 rounds without reloading." The magazine is the adapter. |

I've seen this law violated more times than Sasha Grey, in front of LE. |
