Had a train go by  the house today with 97 tanker cars in tow. 3 engines, 55 tankers, 4 more engines(in the middle), 42 more tankers and 4 or 5 box cars.

Quite a sight.

Ethanol?  maybe.

There used to be  Tank Trains  that ran over Tehachapi and down to Long Beach and then from the Central Coast to the harbor.  IIRC those didn't have helpers cut in in the middle.

Did they look like this?  These are run by General American Terminal, note they are interconnected.  These carry crude oil.

I'm pretty sure they were not inter-connected like that. I was just impressed with the size of the train being nearly all tank cars and they all looked brand new.

The engines in the middle was an interesting twist too. This was headed south through Butte county and i assumed it was headed for the bay area refineries.

We have been seeing alot more tank cars the last year or so, but this was the first "all tank" train we've seen.
