The Punta Gorda police chief and a police officer will face charges in the accidental shooting death of a woman during a citizens police academy demonstration last August. Officer Lee Coel was charged with felony manslaughter and Police Chief Tom Lewis with culpable negligence, a misdemeanor, the state attorney’s office announced Wednesday. Coel was arrested, and Lewis was given a summons to appear in court.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.  It was obviously bad judgement using an actual firearm in a training exercise, especially with civilians involved, with other options easily available.  Unfortunately that bad judgement resulted in a woman's death and it easily could have been avoided.
