The thread title is sensationalistic nonsense.
They weren't enacting any sort of ban here in Florida, they only created a "resolution" in favor of gun control that they were to forward to the US Congress.
BTW: the city voted the whole thing down, it was the brainchild of the city manager and police chief both of whom are non elected positions.

A full house is expected Monday night at city hall representing both sides of the issue. But a letter from the city attorney obtained by 10News to city commissioners advises against any action saying it’s not the worth risk of a lawsuit.
The "Safe Communities Initiative" asks state and federal officials to stop the mass killings by limiting who can own a military-grade, high-capacity magazine assault weapon.
In a letter to commissioners, City Attorney Robert Fournier says the resolution—even though it isn’t an ordinance—pre-empts state action and if “a person or an organization alleged its members were adversely impacted could file suit."
Fournier say the City would be used as a quote “guinea pig” and adds, ”it is my opinion that the benefit to be derived from adopting the Resolution is not worth the risk.”
City Manager Tom Barwin is proposing the resolution and has a different opinion. “The chief and I have come to the conclusion there is no role in our community for these military gauge rifles. They are weapons of war they have no place in our streets or in our communities or with civilians.”
If the City passes the resolution and is sued and loses, the city attorney says commissioners could be fined $5,000 and even be removed from office. Fournier advises commissioners if the goal is to make the city safer, then hire more police officers.
