Saw a big ugly one swimming in the pond right behind my house this morning and he entered the water from the exact same place from where I was fishing yesterday afternoon.

Funny thing; yesterday my "snake sense" was tingling like crazy while I was fishing, it's spooky.

Better keep my eyes open.

Fishing Sunday and saw one swimming about 100 yards from the boat. Fucker was fast too- especially with those .22's whizzing by his head.

OMG glad it was a tractor. That thing would have eaten a riding lawnmower.
Post a pic on the things to see in Florida.

I wonder if that is really a cotton mouth? Seems like someone did some breeding between pythons/boas lol

Google search.

"The average size of a mature Western Cottonmouth is approximately 3 feet in length. Some may grow to 4 or 5 feet in length, and on occasion may exceed 5.5 feet."

The one I saw behind my house was at least 2 or 3 times the size of the one in the picture.

Maybe more.

I shot one almost that big 6-7 Years ago I rounded the Corner on a Dirt Road and there it was stretched out across the Road, first shot hit him a few inches behind the head and it swung around and struck itself! Second shot was right in the head. It's Head was as Big as My Hand! My Son and I put it on the Back of My 5x10 Utility Trailer and it was from one side to the other so a hair over 5' Long and a Good 4-5" in Diameter. I couldn't imagine being struck by One that Size! It might not kill You but I'm sure it would Hurt Pretty bad and could be Deadly if not Treated Right away. My Son and I have King Snakes, Rat Snakes, Boa's and Ball Pythons and I don't believe in killing Snakes for the Sake of it, But a Cotton Mouth or a Big Rattler I will Kill without a Second Thought.

That pic is not a cottonmouth. Right!? That's a boa or an anaconda that got lost in the glades and made its way through the water management system to St. Augustine. Tell me, cottonmouth don't get that big..ever.

This started out as a serious thread, there really was a nasty looking cottonmouth that entered the pond behind my house at the exact spot where I stand to fish.

I kept my eyes wide open this afternoon when I was fishing  and paid lots of attention to where I put my feet.

Yup - I was picking up what you were putting down. Then we got into the 9' long 80 pound cottonmouths that eat small Nuns for lunch.

I hate those damn things, they swim right towards you with their heads high out of the water like they're staring at you.

I'd say he one I just saw was a bit over 3 feet long.
