12.05 The late 80's street racing at Gandy Bridge was so much fun I was there every saturday night from 87 till 92 or so. That's the same time I was out there. Remember the GTO 4 speed car that left with the front wheels of the ground and the crazies bringing super pro cars and running them on the bridge at 3 in the morning? Yes, I watched dozens of races between cars like that from the finish line on the bridge. The Kenny Underwood I knew bracket raced every weekend. I watched a blown, tubbed, open pipe vega drive down gandy blvd. just like any other car. Wild times. If at all possible I am at the track to see what ops chevelle runs. |

My street racing days were the best times of my life. Now I can't find a place to even open my 70 Camaro up to see what she got.. With old age comes paranoia

Today I checked the cooling system again.
My BE COOL aluminum radiator is holding up well. The system was drained to check the zink anode I have in place of the drain cock. Looks great.....no eating of the aluminum Tstat housing...or the rad and edelbrock pump. The flexalite anode is half gone....its doing its job. Picked up a bottle DR peper for some more street action....thank the stars my neibors are nice. Im planning on going to the junk yard tomorrow....just to see how heavy the chevy is on their scale. Looks like im at a shade over 3100 with me in it..im good with the diet its been on.
After thrashing a 2014 Camaro z28 on veterans blvd on sat...looks like I need more + caster. I checked with my camber caster guage...only got +1.5 degrees. Im looking into some UMI upper arms with +6 degrees built in. Top end stability is my goal at this point...Or I could borrow daves 45/70 and end the wallet drain...lol atb....mick. |

Not dead yet.
Ive been trying to get some stability into the top end as far as suspension goes. I swaped out the cpp upper control arms for the umi ones....lots more + castor. And swaped in a 97 jeep grand Cherokee steering box for a faster ratio and heavier feel. My home alignment job feels good at 85 plus. The drive shaft loop is installed.....and I have a helmet. A few more tests in the traction dept.....and im ready to make a fool of my self at the track. |

When I went I preferred the Runday Sunday to the test and tune. I often had
traction issues at night when the dew point was at the right spot. they are also will allow you to choose your competition on Runday Sunday. It is a way to help get street racers off the road. It has been years since I have been but I would see large amounts of money being exchanged on bets and LEO's would look the other way. |

See large amounts of money being exchanged on bets MAYBE WE COULD BET BRASS AND AMMO

Its entirely up to monkey wrench when we go to the track....hees the guy with the trailer.
There is a runday sunday on the 14th....will see what happens. |

I will keep an eye on this and try to come up when you go. I have literally been down that track thousands of times and have won numerous events there as well.
Snowbird Nationals was this past weekend and the first time I haven't raced it in seven years due to illness. Bradenton has some of the finest bracket racers anywhere in the country, probably more World champions there than any other track. Good luck and keep the shiny side up!! |

I had a BLAST....this was so much better than the street racing I remember. with all the trash talk and who gets car lengths and the go.
A great big thanks to dan for trailering my car....and to my budy dave for tagging along. Also to bandit man and his lovely lady for being there too. I learned quite a few things about how to race on a real track...as I had never been on a real track before. Was very nervy on the first run....but gained confidence quickly.....I still have a big grin on my face. First run...12.9 at I think 105mph...with me short shifting and trying to get comfortable. Second run 12.6 at 109mph with me shifting and the trans delaying going into 3rd for some reason. 3rd run on the bottle...I left the trans in drive and hit nos as soon as it shifted into second.....then the nos cut off due to misadjusted micro switch...12.5 at 115 mph. 4th run im still leaving in drive because I don't know whats up with the freaking trans not shifting into 3rd without a delay I hit the nos when the trans shifts to second....it stays on this time and gives me 11.9 at 120 mph. With a little work and some small changes there is more left in this street car....perhaps hi tens. Anyway atb....mick.....video to come. |

Sounds like a blast. Wish I could have made it. You will be thinking about all the ways to shave off time now. I hope to have a street machine again one day.
