I'm going the 7th-9th, but have never been before. I'm going with some folks that go yearly, but any tips on gear and technique would be appreciated.

Wait a week till the regular season starts. Much safer and less stressful.

Not so bad this year, crowds weren't to crazy, limited out in 30 minutes and shot some hogs, FWC not playing around this year, checked 3 times on the way in.

Wife and I limited out (30) with our 3 young daughters. Free diving 6-8' water. Would have liked to go again today, but my main diver/boat operator aside from myself (wife) was to worn out from yesterday to do it...

Not sure where you live at, but I live in Homestead, and we were hitting the holes in the hard bottom between Caezars and Broad creeks.

Nice catch. I dive that area as well. Mini season we went a little further out to stay away from the crowds but, when we came back in it didn't seem to busy this season.
