THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT One of the weapons I planned on shooting is my Glock 22 which I conceal. When I arrived at the park (In my car) I removed the gun from my waist and put it inside the case. I snapped the OEM glock case shut and put that inside my range bag. So I have a gun inside a case, inside a bag. By any definition of the law that gun is NOT IMMEDIATELY ACCESIBLE. I waited about two hours for a lane to finally open and when it did the Range Officer wanted to see all my weapons. I thought this to be weird becuase i've been to dozens of different ranges hundreds of times and never have I had a RO actually inspect my weapons. Reguardless in order to play nice I first unzipped my rifle case, locked the BCG back and handed it to the RO who simply placed a little flag in the chamber. I then pulled out my glock, pulled out the magazine and locked the slide back to hand it to the RO. (I would never ever ever hand someone a loaded weapon regardless to training or qualification) I also made sure that while clearing my weapon and while handing it to him that the muzzle was pointed down range at all times.) As soon as the RO noticed that I had a round in the chamber of the Glock he immediatly told me to pack my stuff up I was done for the day. Keep in mind I drove 45 minutes to get there, waited two hours, and had all my guns encased! This RO was a D**K to say the least so I started inquiring with a different more polite RO who explained that county law says that anyone that walks in with a loaded weapon is not allowed to use the facility. Last I checked the "State law 790.33 preempts all county and city laws when related to firearms and ammunition. They mean squat. Not only are they meaningless, but stiff penalties are in place if state law is violated." Secondly as CWL holder I am allowed to conceal a weapon if I wanted to becuase its not a federal building and no where on the list of exempt locations. Are they breaking the law or was I just wrong? |

If Markham is a public range then yes, they are in the wrong, I would start with sending them a certified letter with a copy of the relevant statutes. If they tell you to fuck off you could get legal on them.

I believe it is a range rule not a Law, but being a range rule and since they enforce the rules it is what it is. When I go to Markham I don't ever use a pistol and keep my ccw tucked away under my shirt as i have for years. It sucks you had this happen .. sorry to hear it.

Cold Range.
See the thread farther down entitled "omg, spot the fail' DON'T be that guy. And if you are, don't advertise it. Most of all, enough with the tantrum. At least you havent hurt anyone yet. The RO's have to process a lot of people and try to keep everyone safe. A hot gun is cause for concern and expulsion. |

Sucks. Happened to me. It is clearly written in their rules on the wall. Also online. Rules is rules.
That's what happens at a county run range. If you drove 45 minutes to get there, I am sure there are better options. Trail Glades for one. Maybe if you would have spent 5 minutes of the 2 hours you waited reading the rules, this thread would not even exist! ![]() |

Didn't a cop get shot in the gut with a rifle round this weekend at Markham?

Rule makes perfect sense to me, sure you may know what you are doing with a gun, but a newbie blockhead might have an ND unloading his pistol behind the firing line, RO +1

I wonder where the "law" ends and "safety regulations" begin at a county owned shooting range?
My guess is that if someone CCWs and doesn't remove his loaded gun from its holster, then applying the "no loaded gun can be brought onto the range" regulation might be contrary to the state law. But if you bring in a gun that you intend to shoot, and it is loaded, then the range safety rules do apply. As I said; I'm only speculating. |

OP, there are THIRTEEN signs from the gate at the entrance to the range, all the way up to the door of the rifle range lobby that say in no uncertain terms, "NO LOADED FIREARMS". On the door to the lobby is a red stop sign THREE FUCKING FEET HIGH that says in big white letters "if you bring a loaded gun into the range you will not be allowed to shoot".
The cashier asks every customer if "all guns are unloaded, magazines removed". When you go to the gate to enter the firing line, the first thing the RO says to you is "are all guns unloaded"? You enter on a cold line, all guns on a cold line are to be unloaded, actions open, magazines removed. Somewhere along the line, you failed basic comprehension. Did I mention the part where you walked past THIRTEEN signs ? Guess they were for EVERYONE ELSE because you're special. ...and I'm done. |

I don't see a "range safety" exception written into the law.

So if during a rifle match, the line goes cold, someone could load a gun and finger-fuck the trigger and point it downrange at other shooters because of 'statewide preemption ?
Seriously.
That's getting into Knights Trail territory, like when they said statewide preemption would force them to close the range because they couldn't have any safety rules. |

Not bring a loaded firearm to the shooting line is SOP at every range I have ever been to. If you can't follow the safety rules in place I can see why they didn't let you shoot.
Most places both public and private reserve the right to refuse entrance. Try following the rules next time. I bet it will work out better for ya. |

HAHAH WOW, I didn't think I could stir up every
in this forum when I wrote that... Not surprised though, this is why this forum is bad mouthed in other places.
ALAN308 Lets start off by saying I am not a Mall Ninja by any means. Theres a point a person stops being "Safe" and just turns into an asshole like when they are walking in the room saying that they wish people would stop coming to the range which I over heard one of the RO's say. Thats just bad business... They have a job because people want to go shoot. They should remember to appreciate the customer. Secondly, The range was hot when I arrived. Meaning people to my left and right were actively shooting. So pulling a gun out of the bag that was hot did not put anyone "Downrange" in danger because there was no one downrange! Lastly before you assume that someone is a "Mall Ninja" how about some manners and common fucking courtesy!? About me though.... I'm a former Marine, and I know it doesnt stand for much but I am also a security guard currently performing limited executive protection. I have owned weapons correctly handled them since I was a child and have never had a ND or AD. ZIP196, I understand I broke the rules and suffered the consequences. I guess common sense escaped me because when I saw a sign that said no loaded weapons I thought they meant out or on you such as concealed. I was also baffled by the "No more then 1 shot every 5 seconds rule" Reaver, As I said to zip, Agreed. Better safe than sorry. RevolverRO, Please start by reading what I wrote to ZIP... Now, Obviously by your name you're a RO... I'd even go off on a limb to guessing you work at Markham... First I am sorry that you hate your job... But being miserable in life in no reason to forget the manners I am hoping your mother had good sense to teach you... If she didn't teach you any then I am sorry you are failing in life and that all you can make of your life is working at a range that everyone talks smack about. Just to clarify though.... Cashier never asked if guns were unloaded and magazines removed, When I got to the gate the line was hot and all the RO asked was if all four of us were together, and as I said... The line was hot when I walked up. P712k and Irag2362 Thank you for your responses. I accept that I was wrong but mostly I appreciate you guys having proper manners in your response.. Apparently not everyone can do that. If a MOD feels that my response is "Outrageous" or uncalled for just let me know... I can delete it/the tread or simply remove my self... Thank you to all who responded Conduct Code 6.) Attacking or insulting a person in an effort to elicit a negative response. You have a right to disagree, but please do so in a respectful manner. |

Its O.K. to sound off.
Its sure to be something you have gained even if coming from some asshole [s]. Hell, I have seen loaded guns that were not even loaded. Doubt you saw that in the military. Stay safe. ETA; I witnessed a ND Sunday. Was not even a Mall Ninja, what ever that is. |

Well thanks for your honorable service to this Great Nation.
The point of NO ONE ( ROs being the exception ) I would think you have been to enough ranges to know that though. |

Alan308 That sounds pretty interesting... Care to explain!?
Reefraider, I agree that I was in the wrong... If I go back I can promise you that there will be no magazines or rounds in my weapons. I guess where I was most annoyed was the fact that there was no leniency... If I were a RO and saw a person that unloaded/cleared a firearm, locked the bolt to the rear and handed me the gun. I think I would give them a warning of the infraction and explain that next time it would not be tolerated. |

Asking if they were in the wrong, your first post, was a bit over the top. And no, you were not the R.O. You could be though. Take a course. |

You have never been an RO either. Trust me it gets old real FAST ! That RO didn't make the rules , but it is his responsibility to enforce them. For every ones safety.
I hope your next outing works out better ETA Did they refund your shooting fee ? Now that would be very wrong ![]() |

OP, as much as I want to agree with you, I'm going to agree with most of the others, you should have never handed that guy a weapon with a round in the chamber. I don't think you should ever have a round in the chamber until you're ready to shoot it. You're lucky its a RO, and not my drill seargent; that guy would have f*cked you up.

OP, rules at public ranges are implimented with the lowest comon denominatorin mind as they draw both experienced and very un-expirienced shooters form all over. Everyone is treated the same, just like a newby no exceptions. Sucks that your day got screwed up and sorry you got run over the cheese grater in here, not all of us are jackasses.

ReefRaider - when it happened to me they gave me a raincheck. The RO was very apologetic about it and we were some of the first ones on the line. He asked if I was LEO (because they can be loaded) and stated he would have to see a badge or ID. Their house their rules.
OP - That is why I make the drive up to Okeechobee Shooting Sports and shoot the galleries. WELL worth the trip. IM me and I will fill you in. |

What do you not understand about Cold Range/ You want to sue someone because you are too wound up in percieved self importance with your carry permit. You cannot understand procedure, safety first, Rules... Juviniles should not play with guns. Bottom line. I'm out. |
