I live in Miami and I'm interested in taking a rifle course in the area. Anyone have any good experiences with any instructors or schools? I'm not finding much in the way of training outfits near me. All the good stuff is up north. If there isn't anything good down here, any recommendations on places where you could run drills and teach yourself if you were so inclined?

Their thursday Trail Glade shoots sound really interesting. You need to be a future or past student of theirs to attend these shoots? What kind of stuff are they doing?

You can attend the first shoot without having been in a class.... But they really want you to have attended a class to continue to shoot there. Their reasons are pretty simple, unless they have seen and passed you in a class they have no idea of your skill set, safety knowledge, or mindset. They have those Thursday night shoots to allow past students to practice the skills they were taught so they can stay sharp and not to act as a class to teach skills.

I'll say they teach a fine class and the Thursday night shoots is why I took a class with them. The techniques were basically what I was taught in the Army and the method of instruction was great.... I sent my wife through their Tac I pistol class last month.

I don't think you can go wrong with Andy of John at TFA.

Another +1 for TFA if you're looking for local instruction.

I'll admit, the opportunity to practice every week the skills you get in class and otherwise would not be able to keep fresh is what intrigues me. I'll take their class if it means I get to practice every week. Do you know if attending the first shoot qualifies the prereq for tactical carbine/pistol?

Another +1 for John and Andy @ TFA. I have been taking thier classes and shooting with them since returning from deployment in 04'
If could have sent my entire battalion to take the tactical carbine courses TFA teaches, i would have paid out of pocket!

You would have to call and ask them.... I was mil, so I didn't have a prereq. My wife had taken a personal pistol class.
