THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT We will be most likely living in Miramar Beach so will the commute be easy as far as traffic on the bridge? Any ghettoish areas in Niceville where she will be delivering? We have been visiting Miramar Beach for the past three winters and like it. Only places to shoot are well inland from what I have seen online. Anything else we need to know about? |

Not really ghettoish, more trailer parkish, like the area around some of 23rd 25th street

Living in Miramar Beach and working in Niceville would be something I'd think twice about. Rent/property is a bit more expensive in Miramar Beach than in Niceville, plus you have the $3 toll to cross the bay each way. Traffic around the Destin Commons can get thick during the season. Unless you are going to have waterfront in Miramar Beach (which can also be had in Niceville) I'd be looking at Niceville/Bluewater for housing. Niceville/Okaloosa schools are just a bit better than Walton, at least at the high school level.
But if you really want toes in the sand every day, then Miramar Beach should be your choice. |

Is the toll during the day only? I have traveled that bridge numerous times during the very early AM hours, and there was no toll. My only concerns are places to shoot, and no dirt bag areas where she will working. We are DINK's so schools are a non issue. |

The only times I have seen the tolls lifted were during storm evacuations. The Garcon Bridge toll has been suspended at times when Highway 98 has been shutdown due to wrecks or when the Dept. of Forestry burns the Gulf Island Seashore and the smoke blocks visibility |

Having lived in Miramar, Destin, Fort Walton, and Niceville, I would take Niceville any day of the week. Less people, less traffic, lower prices.

If y'all are into going out for dinner/drinks, then Miramar/Destin would be a good choice. As mentioned, the toll is 24/7. Only lifted during evacuations. As for places to shoot, you'll have to drive and/or pay. There are a couple ranges in Crestview/Baker area, a new one being built in DeFuniak Springs, an indoor range in Panama City and a couple ranges out north of Pensacola. And like said up above, the worst areas in Niceville/Val'P are trailer parks and some older neighborhoods. Nothing particularly dangerous. |

We spent a week in Destin last December.
We left the rental @ 4:00AM and took the bay bridge to get to I-10 west. There was no one collecting tolls, no flashing lights or any warning so I just kept driving. Same thing when we visited in 2010.... |

There are no toll attendents in the Sunpass Lane. It is an aoutomatic deduction from an account that uses a transponder in the car |

Your tag probably got misread and the ticket sent to some poor SOB. I've been on the receiving end of that twice now here, both times were toll-runners in south Florida. Places I've never been, cars I've never owned. Of course, there's a chance they don't chase down out of state plates because its only an infraction, not a criminal violation. |

Who knows, DOT called me last year about a toll I didn't pay. They told me I didn't pay a toll in 2005. Cost of the toll money I owed was $2. There is no telling with Florida DOT and the Sunpass system. |

You live out of state so it should be all good, or just take longer to get it to you. |

There are some run down areas off of Bayshore, by the UMC, and over by NWFS, but most of the neighborhoods are nice, but older homes.
And you can always look in Bluewater Bay... just outside of Niceville to the east on 20, and right next to the Mid-Bay Bridge for easy access to Destin.... |
