I'm interested in one and applaud you doing the work to get this together. But what is a reasonable time line to get a barrel. Fall 2017?

Am I correct in saying this GB isn't a cash saving deal, but just getting people together for a unique barrel? At $175 from what I'm seeing you would be making a donation to the NRA

sorry guys, I gave Nathan some homework...that's prolly what's slowing down the response. He's helping me compile some data for the arfcom lightweight parts database.
In for one.
This will replace a perfectly fine DD 10.3" barrel on one of my SBRs...going for another ounce or two savings on that build. Will be a nice complement to the pinned 14.5" Faxon barrel I'm about to purchase for another lightweight build in progress. I wouldn't expect it on this group buy...and wouldn't want it if any profits go to the NRA/ILA...but does Faxon offer any form of military discount? I just retired so I can't send an email from my .mil account any more, but no restrictions on sending a pic of my blue "ORF" card! |
At the rate we are going, the 10.3 will be a regular SKU before we get to 50. I wonder if we paid slightly more per barrel if they'd take an order of 25? I mean, I dunno about everyone else, but I'd pay $10 more of it meant we actually got them in short order (heh heh).

Would they do one with a low profile gas block pinned with the group buy? or even dimpled I might consider?
thx |
dimpled would be nice
I WILL TAKE ONE - Agreed dimpled!!
@JoshAston - What is the count up to so far? Thanks kindly. jPence |
I'm sure the dimple can be done. The pinned gas block, aside from adding a decent amount to the cost, try getting 50 people to agree on a gas block. I want the Battle Arms for maximum weight savings. I'm sure some want adjustable gas blocks.
That said, I will personally pin gas blocks for anyone that wants it. ETA: Count is up to date, almost half way there. |

Sounds good thanks, I too want to Ti Battle Arms Dev. Gas Block

I will take one

yep, definitely going to run a Ti adjustable GB over here. Dimples are a good thing, but different companies use different spacing on their bbls / gas blocks, which is why not all bbls are dimpled. I've done plenty of them myself. There are jigs that have center-punch-like screws that get you started...at that point, if you can use a hand drill, you can dimple your own bbl. I often just use one dimple and the other set screw just torqued down. Never had a GB start walking away.

BTW, another vote here to have the barrel dimpled for gas block install... One less thing to worry about, and always easier to have done when it's in the jig getting the gas port drilled anyway.
Edit: every dimpled barrel I've used on my builds has the dimple directly opposite the gas port. The few with more than one dimple (I've only ever seen barrels with 1 or 2 dimples) has one of the dimples centered opposite the gas port. |

View Quote yes! all we need for this custom bbl is a single dimple opposite the gas port, that way just about any gas block will align. perfect!!!!!!!! |

this may be a dumb question, but why 1:7 twist in the specs? the 10.5" bbls that Faxon makes are 1:8, is there a good reason for the change?

View Quote To better stabilize heavier (actually longer...weight is the side effect) projectiles. 1/7 is best for 62 gr and heavier bullets. 1/9 is just about perfect for 55gr and 1/8 twist is a good compromise for almost all .223 /5.56mm rounds. 1/7 is also better suited to shorter length barrels to get more spin in a shorter distance. I personally prefer to shoot 75 and 77gr bullets so 1/7 works best for me. Frankly though, unless you're a match-level shooter you won't see any real difference in anything from 1/7 - 1/9 twist barrels unless you're well beyond 100 yards or until the barrel starts to wear out. Edit: Sorry if I came across as pedantic...re-read your post and believe you're asking why Faxon changed specs for this run of barrels. I'd be happy with either 1/7 or 1/8, but much prefer 1/7 for any 5.56mm barrel shorter than 14.5". YMMV... |
99% of the time, I'm using M193 or hand loaded 55gr pills. Personally, I'd prolly prefer 1:8. This isn't going to be a long range precision gun or anything, but with a group buy a "compromise" rate of twist seems optimal...

Lot of guys will be running suppressed, so better stability for the longer bullets out of a short barrel is a good thing.

1:8 won't stabilize a bullet when suppressed?

Someone should prolly tell Faxon...Cause all their 10" bbls are 1:8 and I'm sure people use cans with them. Could be a liability problem, apparently.

I am amazed 50 of these bad boys have not been grabbed up

indeed, the 14.5" faxon pencil is pretty legendary..one would think we could get 100 orders for a 10.3. IMO, if this was posted in the lounge, it would have got to 50 a LONG time ago. This place rarely has a successful group buy, so people don't often surf the GB forum.

Indeed. At the rate we're going it'll be a regular SKU before we hit 50. What's the plan to get the word out to a wider audience?
