I just got pictures of my upper receiver from Art today. I asked him to install the E-1 forearm on my upper.
I just wanted to post that the upper looks fantastic and Art has gone out of his way to keep me informed! I'll be using SWS forearms on all my rifles. –– John |

Got my E1 today and
I have a question about the barrel nut torquing though. Right now it's wearing the "B" nut @ slightly less than 30 ft/lbs of torque (hitting 30 puts it slightly off center). When I try the "A" barrel nut @ 30 ft/lbs, the rail timing is pretty much right between 2 rows of screw holes (placing the rail @ a 45 degree cant). It feels pretty tight (even with moly grease and tightening/loosening 3 times to 30lbs) so I'm not sure I should keep torquing up to the max of 80lbs to try to center it. Help! What should I do? Keep it as is, or tighten it up with the "A" nut? Am I even correct in assuming 30ft/lbs is the minimum and 80 ft/lbs is the max for LR308/AR10s? -Johnny |

I would venture to say, you should be good to go. I think that trying to force the other nut to time may be a major undertaking if even possible
without damaging something. Since you have well lubricated threads you are a lot tighter than you may think. The slicker the lube on the threads the more stretch on the thread you will get at a lower torque. I have never had one come loose or heard of one coming loose when using the right nut.. There was one used upper that a gent bought that had the wrong nut and was just hand tight and I installed the right nut and all is fine. There was one case where a gent had a setup where he said that neither nut would work. I never actually saw this but I would guess that it is possible. I think that 30 ft lbs with moly should be just fine. Of the many many rails that John Noveske and I both have installed, to my knowlege none have come loose. If you do try for the other nut, you will have to max it and then loosen it several times to get it to go around further. Like I said, you will be risking damage to the parts and the first one to fail will more than likely be the threads on the upper. The two different nuts allow for 24 positions as most barrel nuts do. Basically you may be at one end or the other of the torque values and have to settle for the proper alignment of the parts at that point, whether it be the gas tube hole on the Armalite barrel nut or the knobs on standard barrel nuts where the gas tube has to line up, or most any other make of rail system. Hope this helps Art |

west996:
The SWS website has carbine and rifle length (~12.9") E1 rails. http://www.superiorweaponssystems.com/products.htm Art: Thanks for the expert opinion. That's exactly what I wanted to know. Yea, I decided not to muscle on the "A" barrel nut and just keep the "B" on there. I'm working on installing an anti-rotation pin right now. It's probably not necessary, but it will make me feel better
The more I look at this rail, the more I love it... Satisfied Customer, -Johnny |

ETA: I did find the program and yes, I can run it out of the extrusions we have now, though I would have to generate some more interest in this model, which is not out of the question. I has a nice narrow feel and needs no rail covers. and Yes I do have many barrel nuts for DPMS guns http://www.fototime.com/%7B1E58F7D4-6760-4056-8BBC-6176085AD5A8%7D/picture.JPG Hey Art, You still think we can make this happen? It's about that time of the year where money starts flowing for me and I know I could get at least 12 people interested. Let me know! |

Yes, I was going to do this, it will be a while, though. I went ahead and did a 15" one. I make some 14" for the AR15's now.
thanks, Art |
