I had mistakenly thought that 1960 was the first full year of production date coded mags but yesterday I found an 11/59 HK G3 mag along with a number of clean (no date coded mags) that have W. German acceptance marks with early style floorplates.

Anyone have a date older than 11/59 on a H&K or Rhinemetal made steel mag?

That's pretty cool.  I have a beat up RM mag from the early 60s, my favorite one because it has "personality". Can't really compete with 59!

Just so nobody thinks I am trolling or trying to goof about here is a photo of the mag I discovered yesterday.

If there are earlier dates out there I'd just like to see them as finding out detailed info on things in the first few years of production on the rifles is hit and miss.

I have some from '63 around. My favorite is the one with my birthday 4/64.

I have several in the 60's, late 50's is pretty damn early. I have 40-50 mags and will have to look. I have one from Rhodesia with the green/tan paint and what looks like dried blood on the follower.

Bought a small lot of steel G3 mags a number of years ago.  There were quite a few dated 1960 through 1963, but no '59's.  1959 was the year the G3 was adopted by the German Bundeswehr.  I doubt if any regular production mags with dates earlier than 1959 exist.  But then I do not know if mags were produced for the G3/CETME rifles during the testing process prior to adoption or if regular CETME mags were used.

I was completing my run of 1960 HK mags 1/60 to 12/60 when I found this one. I was like Holy Hell. I also bought both HK and Rhinemetal mags date coded 7/62 (kinda funny) and 6/66 (the number of the beast).
