Hey all.  Hate to be a newb but I couldn't find the answer after much googling:

Did the gen-1 PTR-32's have railed top covers like the current PTR-32s and PTR-91s?

I ask because I'm sorta looking around at the 7.62X39's and seeing a few decent prices, but am thinking they may be Gen-1's.

Thank you all much

Okay cool, thanks.

Gotta be a bit cautious.  Probably better off just buying a new KNOWN Gen-2 from Atlantic.

Of course I'm broke   But I'll fix that at some point.

How you liking your PTR?

It's on my mind again because a friend got a PTR-91 and it looks great.   And I already got tons of AK mags and ammo...

And a 556R that I'm sorta "meh" on.

Thank you Atlantic Arms   You guys are awesome.

And I know the Gen1's are "okay" however most reports I've seen ius they CAN be picky with steel mags, which I prefer.

That's a great reason cause mine only likes magpul, tapco, and the promag drum. It hates Every steel mag that I've tried.

IDK.  I found mine used before the gen 2s were announced. Mine was part of the cracked trunion recall (spring of 2014-ish ?) so it was made during that timeframe. Gen 1's were made well before that and gen 2's weren't made / announced until fall 2014?  Maybe mine was an early gen 2??  I'm curious now as well.

Edited to add--  Mine is a ptr91pdw

There are 3 models of PTR-32

Gen 1 - with/without rail. 93 length handguard. Very mag specific

Gen 1.5 - parked finish, green furniture, 91 length handguard, rail

Gen 2 - painted finish, black furniture, 91 length handguard, rail.

The gen 1.5's are a late 2014 run, before the gen 2 release. According to chris at PTR, they are identical to the gen 2's.
(New barrel contour, new locking piece, new bolt, new magwell latch.) They just have the older receivers, still with the CT and ptr-91 receiver marks.
They were basically a run of about 100 or so, for williams shooters supplies, and using up the old stock of receivers before the gen 2 launch.

So basically, if its got a HK91 length handguard, its gen 2.
(Hk91/g3 length, only leaves about 3" of barrel exposed after the handguard. 93 length, leaves about 7 inches exposed)
