By the way, how are you guys cleaning all the oil off the magazines? Brake cleaner, or just wiping it off? Is the oil inside the magazine to the point that it would impede function?

By the way, my mags came in. If you are looking for cosmetically-appealing magazines, it would be best to pass on these (I'll post pics later). However, if you just want range mags that work as well as the newer stuff, look no further! I disassembled each one and cleaned all components with brake cleaner (except the plastic follower, which I just rubbed down). They are pretty dirty inside, but clean up nicely. All have springs that are just as strong as some MIL/LE ONLY mags I have. The feed lips are slightly different in shape than newer mags, and of course the follower is plastic. However, all lock up well in my SW5 SBR (they seem to require a bit more of a rocking in than other mags and are just a bit looser than new mags, but the magwell is really tight on this gun) and all have fed 147 grain flat points with no issue. I know the HKParts website said that they may have dents, but mine are spotless in that regard.

VERDICT: These mags are a great way to get HK quality and performance for a low price if you can look past the finish (or lack thereof).

I dumped mine in an ultrasonic tank that I use for cleaning in general.  But you can just use a little kerosene (or some other solvent type oil) and a microfibre towel.  Brake cleaner, acetone, or other solvents may remove more paint.  To preserve them (unless you are going to refinish them) car wax works great.

Which ultrasonic tank do you use and what type of solution are you using to clean with?

Yeah, I figured I would just reblue them. Brake cleaner worked great.

It is an older one made by Crest.  I got it off craigslist from a company that was closing and sold it to me for $50.  It is basically like this one that Brownells sells, but a little larger since it was originally for industrial use.

I use this solvent, then do a quick water rinse, and dunk in the water displacing oil.  Once it drys I do normal lube with some grease on the carrier and light oil in the trigger pack, etc.  With suppressors, it cleans incredibly well, but you have to dump the solvent more frequently..

UPDATE: One of the magazines won't feed the last round. I'm pretty sure that the plastic follower is responsible, as it is really loose in the magazine body. Will probably replace it with a chrome follower.

Is there a vendor or place I should snoop to find a couple LEO magazines to purchase?
Was looking at getting a couple just as a collectors thing.

The most reliable source is used on HK Pro.  The "LE Restricted' marked mags are no different than any others, but some guys think that they are somehow better or more valuable and priced higher than new factory mags.  Occasionally, Gatewood Supply has them too.  Personally, the politics of the Clinton era is something I'd rather forget.

Added chrome followers and reblued the magazine bodies. Look and work great! They are all on the right and one in the SW5, with a few factory magazines for comparison.

Hkspecialist.net has mke mp5 mags for 25. They are polymer mags. The one I bought fits tight in the receiver and locks up good. Hopefully I can shoot it this week..

Range report from those that have been running these with the plastic follower?

I had difficulty with the last round in the magazine. It was fixed by putting in a chrome follower.

In all honesty, if you wait you can find the newer mags for around $45 in used condition that have the chrome follower and are in much better shape. Not really sure if these are worth it anymore.
