I am thinking of buying a H&K MR556 for one of my AR lowers. I can buy one for $1899 USD and maybe get a 10% discount at the end of the month closer to Christmas. If I send it to off to IGF for the complete service to include shortening barrel to 14.5", re-profile barrel, pin AAC 51T, Nitrate barrel, and convert the BCG, I am looking at an additional $780 USD (Total for upper and conversion would be $2679 USD)

My question is it worth the cost? I have trained with a HK 416 with 10.4" barrel, and found it a bit barrel heavy. Would the 14.5" upper balance better? Thanks

The 14.5" won't balance better. It will be even more "barrel heavy."



I wouldn't pay all that, but it's your money. I'd look really hard for a used 416 upper first.

Been there done that...
Don't waste your money on barrel work or upper.
If you want the gun, then buy a complete gun and take advantage of $200 rebate.
Otherwise, stick with other brands.

Can you even buy an MR556 upper-only? I've seen the HK416 uppers, but never a MR556 upper.

H&K used to have them on their webstore for the price of a Colt LE901.  They may or may not be in stock since they had a 30% reduction sale after Turkey day.

I really like the H&K 416D and want a MR556, but cant justify paying $2200 for an upper only - a original German made/marked 416 upper - YES, MR556 - NO.

Other H&K authorized dealers may have them cheaper, but like it has been said - better to buy a complete MR556 and part it out.
