Anybody care to post a list of their favorite HK gunsmiths?  Been poking around on a few boards and some of the contact info is either out of date or the guys aren't taking in new work.

Specifically, I would like to pick a few brains about converting a C93 into a C93K in 300BLK.

TIA!

Ghillie says he isn't interested in rebarreling the C93.

Wow, that is news to me.  He has done a pile of C93 rebarrels.  That seems odd.  Did Jeff say why?  I'm guessing you'll do a paddle mag release install, plus a refinish?  If so, I'd also add an optics rail on the top.  You must have been hanging on to that 33K 300 BLK OUT barrel for a while.  They have been out of stock forever.  What do you plan to use for a locking piece?  What are you using for a can?  Have you considered 7.62X39 instead?  That is the way I went in the AR platform.  EBR makes 220 gr subsonic that will cycle the action.  The plus side is that I use steel cased Wolf for supersonic ammo at $0.20 per round instead of supersonic BLK OUT at $0.70 per round.  Much more cost effective, at least in my book.

Joe at Dakota Tactical http://www.dakotatactical.com/webstore/index.php, Jason at Investment Grade Firearms http://www.investmentgradefirearms.com/, Mike Turner at Turner Fabrication Turner Fabrication, Mike at Michael's Machine (618) 570-8641 is best to call, are the guys that come to mind.  There are a bunch of smiths that won't work on clones but all these guys do.  There are also some new guys like Moore Advanced Dynamics https://www.madkc.com/ (MAD), TPM Outfitters http://www.tpmoutfitters.net/, Brethren Armament http://www.brethrenarmament.com/.  I've had Joe @DT do some work for me, but I don't know about a rebarrel, but what attention to detail.  I've also had Jason do some work.  Again a great job but just like Joe you might have to wait a while.  Good luck with the C93 project.

I sent Jeff a PM on hkpro. Basically he said it can be tough enough to get a 223 C93 to run let alone one in 300BLK.

I talked to Dakota Tactical. He's only building complete guns and/or complete barreled actions at this time. No conversion work.

I talked to Mike at RCM earlier today.  Barrel blanks for the 33K length barrels have been ordered but not received yet.  He expects to have the blanks in six weeks or so and will start turning barrels thereafter.  So we're looking at probably sometime in January or February for the 13" barrels.  Also, locking pieces for the 33K's haven't been figured out yet so we'll have that to contend with as well.

As I recall the LP had been worked out when these were available last year.  Please see http://www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/300-BLK-5-8-X-24-33K-Length-Barrel-8p16952.htm for the page at HK Parts.  Did you ask Mike about LPs?  The caliber is cool but expensive.  Since EBR makes 7.62X39 220 gr subsonic for about the same price as 300 BLK OUT subsonic and Wolf 7.62X39 is $0.20 per round instead of $0.70 per round for supersonic 300 BLK OUT, I have much more interest in 7.62X39.  PTR was supposed to have the 32/52 second generation by the end of the year.  Of course we are in November, and I have yet to hear a date for release.

Unless I misunderstood the gentleman from RCM, the 300BLK 33K barrel will need a different LP than the 53 barrel.

I can see the appeal in the 32-type rifle but will a 7.62x39 cycle with subsonic ammo?

The 220 grain subsonic 7.62X39 cycles my ARs just fine, even in full auto.  To be clear, I never tried the EBR subsonic 7.62X39 with out a can mounted.  At least to me the whole point of shooting subsonic ammo is to use a can so it is quiet.  As I recall like the 300 BLK OUT LP for the 53, there was a special LP for the 300 BLK OUT LP for the 33K.  I would imagine that Mike would make LPs for the 33K barrels like he did for the 53 barrels.  YMMV.

I saw this on the Silencer Shop Facebook page.  It is a 300BLK build by Brethren Armament out of Utah.
