What is the easiest/cheapest way to get a UMP 45 clone? I wouldn't like to spend more than $1300-1500 on the gun itself. I'll pay more for mags, sights, etc... I'll probably have to spend more than that per all the prices I've been seeing online lately. Also not counted is the stamp.

It's hard to even find a HK USC for under $1500 these days. Back a few years ago it was possible to do a USC conversion for under $2000 total if you did the work yourself.

What if I got one of these? What else would I need?

Well in imagination land, anything is possible...

You'd still need a HK USC and a stock block to use the UMP stock on the USC receiver. You also need 922r compliance parts.

Cheap and HK can not be used in the same sentence.  A guy in our pistol club built the gun the OP seeks, 5k into it with a stamp.

In addition to that parts kit above you will need a USC upper receiver, pay $600 for the weld conversion/refinishing of the upper receiver, and $200 for the NFA tax stamp.

It's cheaper to buy a complete USC and then just buy the UMP lower than buying a UMP parts kit.  Cut the factory barrel and use a HDPS stock block is the cheapest route.

Have looked here hdps.org?  He did one for me a couple years ago, I went all out switching it to 9MM and he crafted a custome barrel cover/fake supressor

Not bad for a 9mm that takes MP5 mags that looks very UMPish
Getting rid of the tumor that is the proprietary flashlight housing is the toughest part. Ghilliebear does not offer that service anymore.
Not enough room for the paddle release either.

Tough to do the HK thing on the cheap.

My HDPS conversion is one of my favs in my collection. Never a hiccup and makes me look like a better shooter than I am.

short B&T stock FTW!!

Best mod I ever did to my UMP clone. Removes the extra length introduced by the HDPS hinge.

Two tone for your approval (shown with my mp5 and wife's k-gun)

That particular gun was the one that lead me to get mine. I saw/fondled it in person when getting some other stuff, and knew "I have to have one" then a few emails to Tom Bostic later... and now I got one!

Not quite sure how this all works.
1. Buy HK USC  (What's the going rate? I think they're discontinued now?)
2. Buy HK UMP Lower (Gunbroker?)
3. Buy HK UMP parts kit (where from?)
All legal without paperwork so far?

4. File for SBR paperwork
5. Send barrel out for cutting down and threading (what length)
6. Get NFA trust info engraved onto lower?

That right? Never done NFA before, but tempted to...

1. Buy HK USC  (What's the going rate? I think they're discontinued now?) Yes, discontinued. I seen them advertised for over $2k now
2. Buy HK UMP Lower (Gunbroker?) Yes, gunbroker or you can get them at  places like HKparts
3. Buy HK UMP parts kit (where from?) Don't really need this unless you want a an exact UMP clone, Just get a stock adapter and stock
All legal without paperwork so far? Yes, you will need someone to fit the lower, cut magwell  and vents or do it yourself. Not hard but  you could ruin the gun if you make a mistake.

4. File for SBR paperwork
5. Send barrel out for cutting down and threading (what length) Yes once  Form1 approved.,They do make replacement barrels that are 7.87"
6. Get NFA trust info engraved onto lower?

To tell you the truth I don't think they are worth doing since the price of USC is too high now. You can get a really nice MP5 clone instead.
The only reason I am doing one is I live in a crappy state and found a USC for cheap.

Woah. Didn't expect the USC to be over $2000.

I'm glad that I got mine when I did. I got it for $1,200 and that wasn't a great deal at the time.

Ya, as cool as it'd be to have a UMP... I think I'm out with that price for a range toy.

Maybe HK can sort through their financial issues and one day open up their commercial side more like some other companies have. No idea why they'd discontinue the USC.

I think they still sell it in Europe. Demand in the US may not have justified importing it anymore.
