Took my MP5 reverse stretch out today for the first time.  Functioned flawless on semi and full.

When I got it home, I noticed it had a bit of a 'rattle' to it, so I took it apart and shook these out.

They stick to a magnet.

I know what they are- do you?

Tungsten weight for the bolt?

ETA, google says tungsten isn't magnetic.

Where in the gun did it come from?

They stick to a magnet but they don't stick to steel.  I guess the term 'magnetic' can mean a couple of things....

The part was made in Pakistan, so there's little surprise in my mind.....

Possibly deburring material. Left in accidentally after they tumbled the receiver?

You didn't clean prior to firing? Brave...

It's the tungsten granules from the bolt carrier (POF).  You can see the hole through which they escaped in the top of the LP tunnel.

It's a reverse stretch.

They all look the same.

Why would there be tungsten pellets in the bolt?

Inertial buffer weight to prevent bolt bounce and control the cyclic rate. Just like the weights in an AR buffer.

What is the "reverse stretch"?

That sucks. No hate on POF but I have never seen that happen.  So I guess so much for the carrier.  Was this a new purchase part? I know a lot of POF BCGs have been available at pretty aggressive pricing as of recent. Would love to see more inside the carrier.

This is a reverse-stretch MP5K/SP89. it uses the standard MP5 receiver and most everything else from the barrel backwards, but uses the MP5K front end.

Was the rear cap of the carrier floating around in there too? That should be welded in place. I also had in my mind that tungsten looked different: silver or gray in color.

The same thing happened to me with a factory HK carrier back during the late '90's.  WIth any manufactured part that is handled by humans, mistakes can be made.  Not gun related, but I purchased driveshaft from the local Mercedes dealer that didn't have a CV joint on one end.  It was just a mistake where QC didn't catch it, it got boxed and put into distribution.  It's a $1500 part and the factory was in Austria, not a cheap labor market.  The MB dealer just replaced it and sent it back to MB.  It was inconvenient, but shit happens.

To the OP, whomever you bought it from should take care of it for you.  POF's importer probably does some warranty stuff, but your first step is to contact whomever you purchased from and let them know what happened.

I've heard great things about the new POF imports. One anecdote doesn't change that.

I thought tungsten, in its many forms, was always a metallic grey color.

Why does the stuff in these pics looks like oxidized iron ore? It is Pakistani Tungsten?
