Should I buy the permanent railed receiver A3R, go with a standard GI version and add the MFI rail or not buy any PTR?

*with my eyes I need optics.

I want the rail version also.

I just took delivery of a PTR-91 Classic with wood furniture and was able to do a limited (20 rounds) function test today and could not be happier.  Recoil was less than I expected.

If my primary sight were going to be an optic, I would want the welded rail.

Welded rail.

The welded rail can't be beat in my opinion.

If you are going to mount a scope, the railed receiver is going to make it very easy and I don't see any way to get the optics any closer to the receiver either.

Just make sure you don't get one of the special American Eagle chambered barrels.

I bought mine from Atlantic a fee months ago and it has fun perfectly on both LC as well as a variety of steel cased ammo.

just got one myself.

Do HK claw mounts still work with the welded rail?  I got one of the German Zeiss surplus night vision scopes a month ago and I was going to pick up a PTR to pair with it, I would like the rail I guess, but don't want to have to deal with figuring out another mounting option for the night vision.

Ya'll have my attention.

I get back to the U.S. later this month, and am heavily researching one of these to possibly add to my safe.....

I'd rather have the A3R, as I like the wide handguards......but I like the A3S as well.....

Hopefully ya'll get the A3R back in stock in the next 2-3 weeks.

Im 99% sure there is a arms mount to get the night vision to mount to rails.

Edit: Yep arms number 5 mount. Different scope but mounts the same way to the claw mount.

With the finish on the A3S, should I go with a parkerized lower or painted?
Link Posted: 4/9/2014 7:13:04 PM EDT
[#24]
Since it is a late HK-91 clone I'd leave the plastic lower on there. If you must switch it out, then go painted.

I'm wondering how one might get railed welded onto PTR91 GI either by manufacturer or service company or find a competent local gunsmith?

Unless you are planning on refinishing the entire rifle, it's much easier and cheaper to go with a low-mount rail from MFI or Brugger & Thomet.

A rail is about $100 last time I got one and Jeff Walters of parabellum combat does excellent work with fast turnaround times.

I'm trying to save funds for other stuff, but this A3R is calling my name more-and-more every day.
