how much does it cost to get a flat bent to the point that it is considered a firearm?

is there a down side to getting that done and not planning to get the weapon built for a while due to cost?

it will have to be bent by a manf/ffl, then you must recieve it back through a ffl.

So just go ahead and buy a bent flat, vice just a flat

Contact Dave Bowers at Battlement Arms about bent receiver pricing. He's an FFL07 and semi-regular poster on the militaryfirearm.com site. His contact info is on his website battlementarms.com

Bent flat = firearm frame/receiver
IMHO, there is no reason to buy a flat just to have somebody else bend it for you. They will charge you more than the difference between a flat and a real receiver.
hkparts.net usually has PTR receivers, but are out now. Sarco advertises that they have them.
9mm and .223 receivers are harder.
Best source is Black Market Parts at the moment, if they have them in stock.

Depends significantly on what jig you used.

just 2 pieces of angle iron w/ bolts through them to keep the distance. a piece of drill rod in the middle of the flat and a cheap harbor freight press. put some lube on the angle and press it through. then put two pieces of 1/4 rod on each side and squeeze. i f'd up and squeezed it to much and then just put a carrier in the receiver (forced it in there) and then pressed downward. super easy, ni expesive jigs required. let me see if a still have some pics.

only pic from building (shoulda took some while pressing, maybe next time). but you can see in this pic i over squeezed it pretty good.
