Alright I eye balled it. The level proved utterly useless. The piston moves freely so it has to be damn close. I think it's right on. It seems a .266 locking shoulder is the way to go from my gauges. I can get the go gauge to go home on .268 but it takes a good amount of force to close it and unlock it Oh I can't free the damn screw that holds the para stock on for the life of me. I swear they torqued it to 1000 ft/lbs. I did remove the set screw. But it won't budge at all. I'm almost done getting it built however View Quote Did you remove the retaining screw on the inside that's accessible through the hole in the recoil plate? |
|
Yes I did
Won't budge a millimeter That said I wised up when thinking it over a beer and simply drove a roll pin out and swapped the stocks |

Lets hope it's all fine lol It'll probably run fine, but you'll notice the rounds impacting way too far to the left or right, making it difficult or impossible to properly zero. Or so I've heard (mine ended up just fine). |

I may have missed it in the video, but how did you install the locking shoulder? I use a vise to squeeze it in (or take it out). Easy peezy.
Righteous build, brother. Welcome to the club. |

View Quote That part wasn't in the video. I try to keep them around 1 min as that's about as long as I can keep interested in some strangers videos anyhow. Originally pressed it with a vice I had some serious issues putting it in. It wasn't going in on the left side of the receiver and I pulled it from the vice to see it somehow canted several degrees. It burred the receiver a bit Had to use a file to correct that. I then used a hammer, paying close attention to the left side. It STILL was canting for some reason. Finally said screw it and chamfered the leading edge to get it started in the left side hole. Pounded it in. Its in there VERY tight. |

The receiver wall is all there to guide the locking shoulder as it passes through. Keeping it aligned as it passes over the ejector block until it hits the opposite receiver wall can be frustrating, but a healthy amount of grease in the channel helps.

View Quote Nice! I bet it's gloriously loud. |

Those are nice. You did a great job. How much longer till the stamp comes back and you can swap the brace out?

Cool. Still good job. The video was interesting. I hadn't realized you could build a FAL at home until I stumbled across this thread. Thanks for sharing. View Quote It did take some fine tuning that wasn't mentioned in this thread, but it runs real nice |

Dumb question, where'd you find the manuals/guides to follow? View Quote All you really have to do is screw the barrel on and make sure the gas piston operates smoothly. Then use pin gauges to determine the correct locking shoulder to set the headspacing. Its really not a hard build, more involved than a AR, but its not bad. Really the hard part came in with tuning it. My barrel was overgassed. I welded up the gas plug and redrilled it smaller. I also had a out of spec extractor along with a bent piston to make matters more complicated. Now it runs great and is properly gassed. Heres a snip bit from when I was tuning it. Got the FAL going |
|
Okay cool, your videos were really well done. They also got me thinking about one down the road after I finish a couple of projects I have going.

Fatalwishes left a Century metric FAL receiver. What do I need to check for, and what parts kits do I need to start looking @?

This thread has cost me money.
I really like the Krylon finish, what colors did you use? |

I like it. Simple and to the point. I'd be looking for a lower mount, though.

I tried. Mine really does not look anywhere near as good as the OPs but I'll eventually improve it. http://i63.tinypic.com/15o9vzc.png View Quote Get a FDE cover for your Pro. |
