Just got a Para Congo in trade and noticed when I got home that it won't hold open on an empty mag. It has the extended mag release installed, not sure if that makes a difference

Where should I start? I emailed DSA but I would prefer to fix at home if possible.

ETA:

I changed the thread title on this one. What a catastrophic failure.

I changed out the bolt hold open with a DSA factory part. No issues there.

The issue started at the range. Would not extract 1 round. Fire, bolt came back .75 inches and locked up. Took a hammer to open the action and extract the case. Adjusted the gas 4 times, each time took a hammer to open and extract the case.

Got home and reassembled with DSA railed top cover. Now it won't cycle by hand at all, and the spring bent to the point of being ruined. Gun is locked up and totally useless.

Had a DSA carbine FAL last year and it was flawless. This thing is a pile of shit that is going back to DSA Tuesday. Fuck.

Have you played with your gas system at all yet? Probably need to close the adjustable gas knob a bit until it locks open. Use one round at a time until you find what works.

Maybe I should have explained better: it's not when firing, just inserting an empty mag and pulling the bolt back it won't hold. DSA factory mags. If I lock the bolt back, insert a empty mag and pull the charging handle, it slams home. Like there is no bolt catch at all.

There should be a pin that sticks out midway up the slot of your BHO.   Sounds like it is missing.

Edit for pic.   This is what the pin looks like in the mag well, on the left:

It could also be a bad part binding. I had to replace a BHO because the foot was bent a tad which caused it to bind, preventing it from rising high enough to lock the bolt back. Got a new one and all was good. The BHO is the most likely culprit here.

Yep I'm missing that. How does one replace said pin?

Apparently you use a 3/32 roll pin in place of the original.

Nice. Looks like a trip to Home Depot is in order.
