had this crappy thumbhole stock CAI L1A1 "sporter" from the early '90s sitting in the basement for years... finally got around to making it look
somewhat decent:

LOL....I see you got on of those "butt stocks from Hell" too. I swear it was the hardest stock I ever tried to refinish. It was like it was made of petrified wood.

Niiiice!  Theres something very elegant about a well done L1A1.  When I had other .308 MBRs I never got the reaction from people like I do when I roll my L1A1 out at the range.

Seems like its luck of the draw. I now have 2, as I bought my friends rifle recently He bought one CAI rebuild L1A1 at the same place and time as I did. My rifle receiver was cut for inch mags, his was cut for metric mags, otherwise the 2 rifles are nearly identical.

I built up an inch gun many years ago. Parkerized it and put on a new walnut stock set . It was a great looking rifle. Sold it for an absurd amount. One of my truly missed rifles. Had 20 inch pattern mags for it also.
