Police Automatic Weapons Service out of Salem, Oregon, manufactured Fals and Sterlings in the 70's and 80's. I have a line on a P.A.W.S. FAL that looks pretty good but I just don't know anything about them. Google was no help this time.

Anyway, if anyone can speak to the quality of their weapons I would greatly appreciate it. I just don't want to buy this gun to find out it is a Century clunker.

TIA!

Well, I let you guys talk me into it; I picked it up today. I kind of like the battle-worn look to the finish.

Can anybody tell me just what I have here? And yes, a magnet sticks to both upper and lower receivers.

Need to look at the receiver and see if it is a "Williams Arms, aka WAC" Alloy:

I would look elsewhere on the receiver for the maker stamp/mark. From what I read over on the FALFiles, PAWS was just the assembly point/dealer. You need to know who made the receiver and barrel at a minimum. You might want to go over o the FALFiles and post this question there. They are going to want more details and pictures. Wealth of knowledge there!

I signed up for Falfiles earlier this morning. I'm still waiting for them to let me in.

Here are some more pics. Is this an Olympic Arms rifle?

Are you taking the photos or is the seller sending them to you? They appear to avoid the markings and areas that would help I.D. it. Lower might be Izzy but need more of the Upper, Some of Barrel and complete photo (both sides).

BTW, what is the seller asking for this stick?

Looks like a mixmaster. Can't speak to the maker of the receiver, but the parts are a mix of inch and metric, reminds me of a CAI frankenFAL.
Lower is G1 (metric)
Pivot pin looks Indian (maybe Dutch but doubt it)
Bolt release and mag catch are inch pattern
Grip and stock look like US made material
Carry handle is inch
Bolt carrier is inch

Get some info on the receiver and barrel. And more pics.

Williams was making those receivers for both Olympic and PAWS during that time period. It's possible he screwed up and put both sets of markings on that lower-- wouldn't have been his first mistake, nor his last. Also remotely possible that PAWS bought the lower from Oly and remanufactured it as a machine gun, but I expect there would be a few more zeros in the price if that were the case. Also, Olympic was using Imbel kits, not the German parts in the pictures-- so who knows. If it works, $800 is a reasonable price, and if you really need to, you can get a new receiver from Coonan.

Could it have a Williams Aluma-Bomb receiver? See if a magnet sticks to it.

Did you get authorized on the Files yet? I posted an update to the thread I started there. Did you get it for $800.00 or less?

I did get it for 800; that's as low as the seller was willing to go. As far as the fal files goes, I guess it takes an act of Obama and the Muslim Brotherhood to get you approved over there... still waiting.

ETA They just let me in.

Wow. Looks (to my extremely inexpert eye) like an Inch front end and the rest Metric.
But also looks like a decent rifle.

Ok, what about the rifle is "inch" and what is metric? NM; Google was my friend this time.

G1 lower
STG-58 butt stock
Argentine hand guards
Metric cocking handle (probably G1)
Inch barrel, carry handle, mag catch, BHO

The upper receiver appears to be cut for inch magazines although metric will fit.

It also looks like the upper is cut for a folding cocking handle.

The rear sight is probably going to be too low for a proper zero.

Also looks like the British-style W-cuts bolt carrier.

Well, I took my inch/metric FAL mutt to the range today and she ran like a scalded dog. I shot Pakistani surplus and some Federal through it and she didn't skip a beat. I was hitting orange clays at 50 yards so it meets my "minute of man" accuracy standard.

Thank you for all the comments. I am definitely glad I bought it.
