I have wanted one for as long as I can remember. Our local shop got one in and I had to have it.

Used, if you can call it that, Springfield SAR-4800. There is not a mark on the gun. I got the rifle and 5 mags for $1000 OTD.

I have only put 60 rounds through it, but it shoots very well and I love it. I haven't pulled the stock off to see if it has been altered to not accept a pistol grip. Overall, I am very happy with it.

I am a complete noob when it comes to FAL's. Anyone who wants to offer advice, criticism, or help I would love to hear it.

Yes, I know the stock and fake flash suppressor are abominations. How hard is it to put a stock and pistol grip on it, assuming it hasn't been altered?

Obligatory pics.

With a couple of it's siblings that I shot along side it today.

The SAR4800 is a great rifle.  Factory assembled Imbel.  It is essentially a SAR48 that has been altered to comply with the law at the time.  If you look at the "00's" in the SAR4800, you can likely see they were stamped at a later time, after the receiver was initially stamped the first time in the factory. The stock and pistol grip will be very easy to switch out and will drastically improve the looks (they didn't modify the lower at all on these.).

I think you did well on the purchase.

Thank you for the information! I really appreciate it.

Next newbie question(s), is this a metric or inch rifle? Where is the best place to look for new furniture?

Buy the factory FAL buttstock tool if you are going to change it out, as it makes the job easy and fast.

The fake F/H may be pinned or pressed on, there may even be threads underneath it. I'm not sure on the SAR4800s, but you may need to have threads cut into the muzzle.
