THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
Was thinking of putting one on my SA58, have any of you folks done this? I have a full sized stock and would probably need a cheeck rest.
In theory it seems like a good idea, but what are the cons? apart from the money I won't be giving to the man to get it?

Thanks in advance

Ask and you shall receive...

This is my SA58 with a TA31F. I originally tried the DSA specific ACOG scope mount. It did not work (scope kept coming loose), so I returned it and got the standard DSA mount and paired it with a Larue ACOG base. I borrowed the cheek riser from an old FNAR. I sanded down the stock, worked on the cheek riser with a dremel, layed down a couple of layers of fiberglass inside the cheek riser for reinforcement, and used 3M 8115 panel bonding adhesive to adhere the cheek riser to the stock.

This setup works great. Gives great cheek plant. The irons are a bit tough to use though, since they sit so low. They are still usable though.

To tell you the truth a Trijicon Acog, especially the ta648 which is calibrated tof 7.52x51/.308 works great. That fixed 6x power is very well suited for that round. IM sent with more info

Hmm, interested. I've long thought a Ta33 variant in 7.62 calibration would be pretty cool.

Wow that is brilliant with the check riser, I do not have an old FNAR laying around, but I am going to look at getting the risers if I can. Good intell on the mount, I will be putting a Larue mount on it. I was afraid of it coming loose ect.

Thanks. The setup works really well for me. If I did it over again though, I would go with the TA33 ACOG. The eye relief is quite a bit longer than the TA31F.

I would imagine that FN would sell you a set of FNAR cheek risers. They were pretty reasonable about parts on that gun, with the exception of the overpriced mags. I would get the full set of the risers, as they vary in height. Choose the right one that fits your face. I've got a giant head, so I had to use the lowest profile riser. Practice dremeling on the others. It took me two shots to get the riser just right. If you don't have access to 8115 panel bonding adhesive (shits expensive) a bumper/plastic repair epoxy should work fine.

If you do get the larue mount, make sure to tighten down the adjustment nuts fairly tight. If it isn't very tight, the scope will come loose.

Here's what I did for my ACOG and FAL. It's a standard M1 Garand leather cheek piece.

tHat is a great scope there and I like the garand cheek rest too.
