Anyone had this problem? What causes it?

Google:  "Causes of doubling in M14 and M1 rifles"

Gus Fisher did a wonderful job of explaining it all.

Awesome! Thank you as it appears it was my positioning on the rifle at a low to me rifle bench on an indoor range. Never had the problem before and I'll confirm it tomorrow in standing position with a better grip.

I  got my SA M14 Loaded to double and triple by shooting on the bench and lightly pulling the trigger. I bumped fired it by accident . Shit my pants .

Bump firing... Squeeze and hold the trigger back, follow through so to speak, should stop it.

Will do. I'll do this next weekend when I've got time and report back to close the loop officially.

I've had a Beretta BM-62 action go off on bolt closure, if the M-1A also has an inertia firing pin or a problem with the firing pin, I suppose that would cause a double.

I have owned my Norinco since 1993, and shot a few M1A's as well. Never had it happen to me.

Yeah, mine also doubles occasionally. Especially if I fail to follow through on the trigger squeeze.

My Poly M-14s bump fired unexpectedly while I was in the sitting position and really focusing to hit some longer range targets. Nothing quite like a surprise double tap of 7.62X51!

I'm a little more deliberate with my trigger pull now!

Been a while since I bump fired my M1a. It's fun to do for sure. Also expensive to feed.
