On my M1, the pin holding the Accelerator into the Operating Rod Catch can be pushed out one way (won’t go the other way).  Found out when I sprayed the assembly with Gun Scrubber, and things came apart.

The CMP manual that came with it talks about the pin being riveted, which is seems to be on one side, but not the other.

So:

Is this normal for Garands to have the pin loose on one side?
If not, is there any danger of things coming apart once in the stock, or does the wood keep everything in place, so just don’t lose things when disassembled and I’ll be fine?
Is there any way to lock the pin in place now, or should I just buy another assembly of the 3 parts, assuming it’s sold as a completed piece?

Thanks,

Pin should not move, it should have been peened on both ends. Either try and peen the pin or replace the catch
