So dad picked up a grail rifle for himself (vn vet) a sa m1a.
Unfortunately it has the cammo fiberglass/plastic stock.
I would like to get him a nice walnut or birch stock for it.
I know nothing of the things

Fred's.  Refinish it your self and have a beautiful stock for next to nothing.  Some people have had trouble dealing with Fred's, but my own personal experience was pretty good.

You can often find nice looking stocks at a decent price on eBay.  I found this stock on ebay, almost couldn't see the grain pattern under the oxidized linseed oil finish.  One it was stripped of that, and finished in teak oil, the grain really stood out.  Even better, the stock had never been on a rifle.
You may have to search for M1A stock, USGI stock, figured birch, figured walnut, USGI birch, USGI walnut.

Freds is most likely the best place to get a nice stock for an M14 / M1A...  from inexpensive all the way up to "presentation"  grade,  they're all a good buy....

Wow! that is sure one nice E2 stock.  I went to Treeline as your picture got me thinking I better get a nice one while I can find one.- the price is great.  It will go great with my original bipod
