Or should I mount a scope/optic. I have a new steel sadlac ready to install but I am at a lose what optic

My answer is it depends.  

If you plan on keeping the original style stock like the wood gi or fiberglas than scoping the rifle has some issues for getting a good cheek weld.   If you don't plan on adding some kind of cheek pad or riser then in my opinion it's a bit clunky of a set up.
