I read earlier this morning that TonyBen has received his Blackfeather "RS"... I am looking forward
to his review, video, and range report on the "RS" as well as the other kit he received from M14.ca
Tony has produced some of the best informative & instructional YouTube videos on the M14/M1A available.

FYI, the Blackfeather "RS" is now available to customers in the USA
without the 5 week wait, and without any BATF paperwork.

My Blackfeather CQB-16 build is awaiting the new Long Sight Plane top rail cover. I expect to receive
the monolithic Flat Dark Earth "LSP" in a couple of weeks, ... I'm excited to get this show on the road.

Cool!  My only "complaint" about the RS is the gap between the trigger guard and the grip.  I know their reasons for it, but I still think it gives it an "unfinished" look.

I'm looking at buying an M1A/M14, and this stock setup is appealing from the weight aspect of it.

When it comes to the M14/M1A, I actually prefer a clear space between the trigger guard, and the front of the grip.
The space makes it much easier to open & close the trigger guard.
In the case of the "RS" it also helps retain the correct trigger finger position.

The original SAGE EBR had a similar 'gap' that some people didn't like the look of either.
New EBR grips close the gap, but they also shorten the distance between the back of the grip and the trigger.
This change takes some getting used to.

Of course, the addition of an M14 trigger shoe to any M14/M1A
using a pistol grip makes the trigger feel & pull so much better

I like Tony's videos.

If I have known the RS was this light, I might have chosen that stock system over the VLTOR.

Always a good excuse for a second rifle

It's my pleasure Tony!

My LSP should arrive sometime this week.

I will post a review & range report as soon as I can.

Thanks!

This particular CTR has a better recoil pad, and it accepts cheek risers... I'm using the shortest tallest one available.

Total weight is 12.5 lbs with 20 rounds in the mag.

Just 9 1/2 lbs. here

This configuration weighs a little more

HERA-05.03 Side Folding unit
3.2 oz.

Law Tactical also makes a folder.
8.5 oz.

Is one better than the other? How?

I am more of an iron sight & RDS shooter, and I have worn corrective lenses for decades. A problem that I am facing as I age is the recent inability to focus clearly on a front sight post that is less that 17" from my eye. The long sight radius on a standard M14 with the front sight ahead of the castle nut is NOT a problem, it's the reduced sight radius encountered with gas lock sight bases and flip up irons on top rails that give me fits.

So, one thing that I would like to see Frank design for the M14.ca Blackfeather system is a butt stock adapter that lowers the comb down to USGI wood/synthetic stock height without repositioning the pistol grip. This would allow shooters to use the existing iron sights & co-witness the irons through an appropriate red dot mounted on a SHG. Maybe my eye doctor can adjust my prescription so that I can focus clearly on objects as close as 16" out to infinity.

Of course the LSP is all that and a bag of chips for everyone that shoots with a scope, and wants flip-up battle sights.
The standard butt stock adapter works well with LSP.

A cheek riser is no longer required with the NEW high butt-stock adapter (HBA) installed.

The original adapter weighs 4.6 oz. The new, and much larger HBA weighs 5.0 oz.
The weight reducing machining on this part is impressive.
The same can be said for the entire system.

H2O_MAN, I have the same front sight focus issues these days.
I'm contemplating getting lasik if the surgeon could convince me that it would cure my issues.

Beautiful rifle by the way!

Thank you, and let us know how the lasik works out if that's what you end up doing

I've had trouble with my Larue SPR mount sitting over the ejection port. Cartridges hit the base of the mount, the part that clamps on the side of the rail, and will bounce back into the action causing blockages. Granted, my rail sits lower than yours. I think I will move to regular TPS 30mm rings.

Is the SPR mounted backwards with the throw levers on the op rod side?

If yes, try and find one of their LT-608 mounts.
The levers are on the other side.

TheCanuck, I see what you are talking about now.
That rail system is very low... a lightweight set of tall rings should make life easier.

They wouldn't grip on 4'' of the rail so it might reduce stopages
