I miss my brand new in the box M1A Scout Squad already.  I had to return it to SAI for warranty repair due to a broken extractor.  The sad part is I only fired five rounds of factory M80 ball ammunition before the dang thing broke.

Excuse the bad pictures (took them in my truck sitting in the parking lot after picking it up), but here's my first Garand I picked up today.

CMP Special Grade delivered in less than 3 weeks after mailing the order.  Springfield manufactured in December of 1941 per the SN.  I thought that was a pretty cool manufacture date.

Very nice!  Once you field strip it, post up the parts.  Clearly a post war trigger guard (probably post war production Springfield), as well as rear windage drum and op rod.  What bbl?  Those Springfield specials can often have late Springfield barrels that are known to shoot VERY well.

If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times.   I'm so jealous of all these stocks.  My CMP Garand stock was beat to piss and sanded down a lot and loose.  This was a long time ago though.

It's really nothing special, it's just a CMP Garand.
But it's my first Garand in the USA and boy, does that mean to me.

(by the way, for some really strange reason I love these new CMP stocks)

Why don't you rub it in about how nice your new stock is.    I should try and trade with a Garand newb and sell someone that mine probably saw action and you guys with these new ones have no character.

Picked her up this afternoon.
I felt like I was waiting forever for one with a walnut stock to show up.
There's just something about a rifle made out of wood and steel.

It looks fantastic!!!  But I do have to ask, how is dark brown not fitting for the woods?

I don't think i worded that right. I swapped out the walnut stock because it's a gorgeous stock I really don't want to bung up in the woods... And bung it up I will!
The areas I venture have much more of a green pallet than anything else. I venture from woods to rocky grasslands. More green and tan than USGI dark brown.

I hear ya.  I really really like the dark brown on the synth stock.  To me it's a good color for the woods.  Not much different than the tree trunks up here.

A while back I bought a synth stock that was one of the older Springy's that I believe is a USGI underneath that bedliner spray on.  But I painted it back to what the original color is.  Or close to it.  LOL.

I re-invested my tax refund into this thing since I don't have a .308 rifle. I just walked into Academy and happened to notice it. Despite liking FALs and AR type rifles more, this thing shoulders very comfortably, and isn't all that heavy.

After pondering about it for 2 hours, I left the store with it. Took it out today with some XM80 to battle zero it, then ran some cheap steel cased ammo to see if it would eat it. No problems at all. Noticeably more accurate with the XM80, though.

Springfield Armory is running a "Gear Up" promo if you've recently bought a new M1A. 3 new 20 round mags for free.

I'm also pondering putting an optic on it, but I kinda like it with just irons. Even though I'm usually an optics over irons guy.

I've only had it out once but it's looking like 2 MOA with ZQ1
