That's badass like I said before, and you put in a Ton of work on it. Something to be very proud of and whoever you had that down too will have won the lottery

The factory mount is OK, but it gets really hot & it sits pretty high, high enough for a riser to be added with some optics.

A better option is the scout hand guard (SHG) imported from Canada.
The SHG is light, it runs cool, and it positions most optics low enough that a cheek riser is NOT required.
It also enables co-witness of irons though some Aimpoint red dots that mount low.

I don't have any problems with it.  In fact, I find it more versatile.  I run red dots and magnified optics on it.  If the mount is too high, you can always purchase a cheek rest.

Finally I can play...been wanting an M1A forever

March 1993 manufacture Springfield M1A, unfired condition!
-TRW barrel
-TRW bolt
-HRA oprod
-TRW trigger group
-NOS proof marked USGI stock (based on my research, 1962'ish TRW)
-Old as hell USGI nylon sling

Found an NOS condition slotted handguard that should be in in a week or so.
The walnut stock was bone dry when I got it; I gave it a coat of BLO, a very light sanding with 0000 steel wool, then another coat of BLO.

After selling my M1 Garand like an idiot (late 45 receiver, SA 55 barrel, 1&1 T&M wear, NM op rod, Lock bar sights, all in a nice stock with character and cartouches, etc.), I've been on the hunt for another.

Picked these up together in a trade (best trade I ever made). A 1943 Sringer (mostly SA parts, save a HRA op rod) with a NOS SA 55 barrel, and a 1942 03-A3 with a 9/43 NOS barrel. Both muzzles gauged below "1" on the CMP muzzle gauge.

Super stoked, both are already showing promise at 200 yards. Can't wait to shoot them next month in the service rifle match.

Great pic of great guns.  I have an all Remington 03A3 that i got from the CMP.  I put a scant stock on it too.  And I actually like it more than a Garand.  It balances and handles nicer.  And it's accurate.  It's got the 2 groove barrel.  Some day I gotta get that thing back out and give it some exercise.

Thanks!

This is a regular (4 groove?) barrel on the 03-A3. My buddy has an Remington with the two groove.

I need to do some research on them. Are the two groove barrels noticeably more accurate than the single groove? Being both of these will be shooters, and I plan to compete at some point, I'd like any advantage I can get
