How do you remove the front sight assembly on a M1A?

it doesn't have a "assembly" to remove the front sight ya use an Allen wrench to unscrew the set screw that is in the front sight and slide the front sight off to the left.

to remove the flash hider you unscrew it's little set screw located on the bottom of the flash hider and use a pair of "castle nut" pliers to unscrew the castle nut and then pull it off. do not attempt to remove the flash hider without the special pliers.

When you unscrew the front sight screw, you have to completely remove the screw before sliding the sight off to the side. This is designed so that if the screw gets loose, the sight can't fall off.

The castle nut set screw is located AT THE TOP of the flashider,in front of the front sight base (not on the bottom).

When you re-install the flashider, don't forget to use an alignment tool to make sure it's straight.
