Top firearm is an AOW; the bottom is an SBR.  So for those of you in unfriendly states... maybe the 'vertical foregrip on a pistol' variety may be the way to go. Both are Anvil Arms products... RIP.

Direct from 27 CFR Part 479:

Any other weapon. Any weapon or device capable of being concealed on the person from which a shot can be discharged through the energy of an explosive, a pistol or revolver having a barrel with a smooth bore designed or redesigned to fire a fixed shotgun shell, weapons with combination shotgun and rifle barrels 12 inches or more, less than 18 inches in length, from which only a single discharge can be made from either barrel without manual reloading, and shall include any such weapon which may be readily restored to fire. Such term shall not include a pistol or a revolver having a rifled bore, or rifled bores, or weapons designed, made, or intended to be fired from the shoulder and not capable of firing fixed ammunition.

The part in red was written for guns like the Marbles Game Getter, which has one rifled barrel and one smoothbore, as well as having a buttstock (yes - there are some situations where an AOW can have a buttstock).

What is to say that this T/C Contender (with a buttstock added) does not meet that definition?  The definition does not say that the barrels have to both be attached to the gun at the same time.  It would be simliar to the "combination of parts" in the machine gun definition.

Actually, I wrote a letter to ATF several years ago asking that exact question.  They didn't bother answering me.

Looks to me like REMINGTON 870LM 12ga BREECHER WEAPON. With a simple modification it can be mounted under an AR15 for a handy dandy knock knock. I am not sure if that changes it to an SBS due to it being shoulder fired via the AR. I want one, that I am sure of. I am awaiting reply from my C3 dealer.

I bought it from Bachman Gun and Pawn in TX last June for $600.  It is a Remington 870LM.  Had it sent to my dealer in CA, yes California.  My CLEO signed the Form 4 late July.  The ATF process only took 8 weeks.  God bless ATF examiner Dana Pickles for the quick turn around.

It does make it a SBS.  Get the Reminton 870 MCS it has everything you will need included.

Aside from the mossberg, What other shotguns come from the factory with a pistol grip that can be Form 1'd to an AOW?

nice!

that knoxx grip is the one that gets rid of a lot of recoil right?

Yes, I hope.  I haven't taken it into possesion yet.  It's sitting in the class 3 dealers safe until my paperwork clears.  I shot the photos in his office.

Waywar

I shot an 18" barrel shotgun with and without one of these on the same day, the difference was amazing.

Let us know how it works on such a short shotgun

I've decided on a Remington 870LM. Can anybody steer me towards a dealer that carries them? Thanks!

Picked it up last tuesday.  My new Serbu Super Shorty.  The Knoxx Breacher Grip handles more than half the felt recoil and can be shot with one hand very effectively.
I love this shotty!  I just wished it would fit in the SKT drop leg holster with the Mesa Tactical side saddle.  It fits great without it.  I've blasted thru 3 dozen rounds with it thus far
and I might add it functions flawlessly!

Awesome! So would you say the grip really tamed the recoil to the point of comfortability ?

Yup.  Double barrel AOW in .410.

The SOT who built this found two receiver forgings, one for 12 ga and one for .410.  The 12 ga was already sold, so I grabbed the .410.

I only have a few firearms on my bucket list.  A side-by-side AOW was one of them.

Was.

I believe that is a flashlight/laser from Streamlight or a similar company.
